No I get that this is supposed to spark initiative to work harder in school and to have a plan right after graduation, but like what if someone just wants a HS diploma so that they  can get a regular job that doesn't require a college degree? Even some minimum-wage jobs require a HS diploma or a GED. Not to mention getting promoted and raises could be affected by not having a HS diploma, even at lower-level jobs. I feel like this is just going to cause more problems than solve them

Then it shouldn't be a problem for young people to apply for jobs after school. This policy obviously won't work, but in theory it would seem probable.

Wow, what a clever way to give the military more poor young people to sacrifice. The poor can't afford college, so unless they have a job offer before they graduate, they can either go to the military or not graduate.

So all creative and innovative people (who usually take their time) are going to be cockblocked. And why would you need a specific programme for a gap year?

 

Won't this just lead to a gigantic bureaucracy, less vibrant labour market and more school drop-outs? How are they going to check if people actually do this anyways?
