I was meant to make this post earlier but it's been a bit hectic To bring in the new year I thought it'd be nice to tag everyone and just open up discussion about how 2018 was and how we hope 2019 will be. What were your gaming highlights of 2018? What were your gaming lowlights of 2018? What are you looking forward to in 2019? Late response but mk. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Persona 5 were my highlights of 2018. The games were masterclass JRPGs and have countless hours to play. Love the cast in each and cared for the worlds they were in. 10/10 games for me Smash came too late in the year for my personal opinion but I love it and it was for sure my most hyped game. My lowlight of 2018 was probably when I went over to my now ex's Girlfriends (she moved away after Christmas) and we played Pokemon Let's Go. Oh lord the game seemed ridiculously easy, the co-op and catching were incredibly clunky, the graphics were eh (eh), the performance wasn't good either. Honestly makes me worry for Generation 8. Game Freak are not good with technology like at all since their move to 3D and the recent talks with how they have been in many problems, wondering how they can use all 3 modes of the switch (dear god no gimmicks ), etc. https://nintendosoup.com/pokemon-ceo-developing-for-nintendo-switch-was-tougher-than-we-thought/ This makes my hype for the game shoot down. If it's nothing spectacular then idk if I'll pick it up. My big hopes for 2019 is GIVE US SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI V INFO!! I need it in my life (Or if whatever P5R and P5S turn out to be they can come too which I doubt but I'll enjoy ) Any new Smash DLC that is hype like Joker is really welcome (Doomguy plz ) I hope Animal Crossing is good but isn't a City Folk situation and Luigi's Mansion 3 fixes the problems Dark Moon had. Please announce Pikmin 4 too thanks <3 (Forgot about DOOM Eternal which I need omg hurry up) Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 are for sure not coming out this year, no way. The games are probably still in the midst of development, but I hope they're good. Overall, was 2018 a good year for Nintendo. Hell no! The year was dry as well and the only new Triple A games I bought were Xenoblade 2 and Smash Bros. Xenoblade 2 was a 2017 game so that really doesn't even count for what carried this year, except Torna that was cool. I did buy Bayonetta and several other indies but they aren't Nintendo's games, but Bayonetta is leaning more and more Nintendo so eh stick it in either category. (Side Note I really do want to play Octopath but saving that for 2019) But the year was dry! I love the ports but I played those and on more close thinking I really don't want to play a lot of them. Nintendo had disappointing Directs, E3, and Online . Smash and Joker were the huge highlights for Nintendo but they were slapped at the end. Not to mention the delay on Yoshi and Fire Emblem. Yoshi seems and plays like it's ready, if that came out this year I would of appreciated that. 2017 still holds the crown for the best Nintendo Year for Switch. 2018 really gave me paranoia for how the rest of the console could pan out, if they can be bad games like Kirby, Mario Tennis and Pokemon, I have a right to be worried. I hope 2019 really hits like 2017 did, because there is a huge line up already, I am hoping that it lives up to the expectations, even though they aren't high because 2018 really set them low. Haroon 49,685 Posted January 3, 2019 Author Share Posted January 3, 2019 My highlight of 2018 was Octopath Traveler Great stories and soundtrack and art style and combat, it's just really stayed with me and I can't wait to re-play it fully in a year or so when I've forgotten significant chunks of it, so I can try to approach it with a fresh pair of eyes I also really liked some Wii U ports because I didn't have them on my Wii U. Really enjoyed Bayonetta 2 and need to go back to it eventually to unlock more stuff and get good at it. Also had a lot of fun with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze; awesome level design and music and need to go back to it to complete it beyond 100% too My lowlight of 2018 was not having any Bayonetta 3 news Literally all they did was release that few second tiny teaser thing ages ago and then nothing since. Like when someone needs to watch TV I just finish what I'm doing and turn off the Switch, rather than taking the Switch out of the dock and continue playing Oooh go for it! It's not worth it if you just play the story mode, it's all about online play. There's no "proper" local co-op either really so it's not like Mario Kart 8 and Smash where you can play offline and have a blast, it's literally all about the online Amazing game (for me) though, I'm almost at 800 hours Octopath Traveler I won't be able to stop gushing about.
