I read this everytime a singer who is famous because of pop songs and extravagant outfits releases a stripped down song and shows off their vocals (Gaga, Miley, Kesha).

The problem isn't that most singers can't sing, the problem is that you don't (want to ) look behind the costumes, or what they might express. That's why we have **** on the charts and culture while artists who can really sing struggle to get that impact, they deserve.

But that's just my two cents.

It's such a flop that there were people in 2015 who were just discovering Gaga has an incredible voice because of her Oscars performance  Even with crazy costumes and all that, she had already showcased her talent countless times

I dragged the Chainsmokers a while back for this.

We live in a world where someone could be writing the next Bohemian Rhapsody and acts like The Chainsmokers get huge.

It's devastating to anyone talented who watch these mediocre performers/musicians RULE the charts and the industry. To see that in the end all you need is a hot body and a grin to make the hits rather than pipes and writing ability.

The GP doesn't have to look behind a pop singer's costumes to know about their vocal abilities. How about pop singers give the public a song that's pop and still shows they have a voice? Don't blame people if they think you don't have a voice if you don't show them that you do.

I always thought Kesha's voice sucked until I found out that she could sing thanks to her new single and it's such a pity she didn't use it well in her earlier stuff.

That's what Gaga has been doing since The Fame and people took 7 ****ing years to realize she has Whitney level vocals because of her Sound of Music tribute, invalid argument.

To me it's like "brains or beauty?" like you can't have both an exciting artistry and a phenomenal voice, you have to pick one or the other (according to GP)

People are so simple, they see something as style or substance - unaware that the two can in fact coexist within a single entity, as it does beautifully in people like Gaga and Kesha.

I'll be honest, I've been sleeping on Kesha until Praying. I didn't know she had such an incredible voice.

On that note though, you can't necessarily blame people for not looking past it. I mean, unless your a diehard fan or even a casual fan, you're just not going to know the extent of how well someone can sing. 

A lot of people are still figuring out that Gaga has a beautiful and amazing voice, and I can't say that I blame that of them. Like, she obviously has been showing people that she can sing, especially in recent years, but the reality is is that people don't know Gaga like that. They know her for her catchy pop hits and her outlandish costumes, not for being the incredible singer that she is.

That's what unfortunately doesn't captivate people, and that's why they don't know that a pop star like Gaga, or Miley, or Kesha can actually sing. 

People just don't really care. One second they'll be like "Oh wow, I never knew she had a great voice", but that's not what's stored in their memory of the artist. What's in their memory is the costumes, what they do/say, etc. etc. not their voice.

Could be because she performed electronic music and such genres, which are usually edited or autotoned, but really, even in those eras, nobody said Gaga couldn't sing or that her voice sucked. People said the same thing: she has a nice voice, but she's crazy and she's wearing meat.

It's just when she performed that tribute, people found that she can sing anything even if it's not her thing, supposedly pop or dance, and can do whatever she wants with her voice without relying too much on instruments or dancing or vocal editing to give a great performance, something that other pop singers probably can't do.

There's nothing that Gaga can't do. Belts, higher belts, a little bit of a head voice.
