And yeah, people are so quick to call Mariah shady but she never shaded anyone who didn't start it first. You know, like how Madonna said Mariah isn't particularly bright and she'd rather kill herself than be her? I don't blame Mariah for not liking Madonna, she seems to be the shady one; when a new girl came on the scene, she was nice at first but then after her 2nd album dropped, only because of similar chord progression, she was quick to dismiss her as being "reductive" and used the song to mock her on tour. Say what you want but Mariah would never do that.

Btw, Mariah has said plenty of good things about Madonna in the last 5-10 years. As they got older they moved on from dissing each other.

Mariah has the voice but I've never been interested in her product. Janet is talented too but I've always found her a bit boring, never cared about her tbh.

Madonna is everything, she may not have the best voice (she is not a vocalist) but she's done everything she's wanted to do and she's done it well. She's the definition of icon and legend. Her activism has always been there, for women, gays, the 3rd world, etc. Her tours are the best anyone could do, she has always delivered quality products...

¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula?

This is true. Madonna is easily the most popular of the three in the U.K. (Good Point!). However, if my memory serves correctly, Mariah did have over 20 top 10 singles in the U.K.  Therefore, that does indicate a significant presence (although to a lesser extent than Madonna).

Just counted, she's had 18 and 21 including features. She did well, along with Whitney and Janet, but Madonna was just on another level in Europe commercially speaking.

I also forgot Mariah hit no one with Westlife when they dueted on Against All Odds, so that's 2 no 1's.

Good sis, recommend me Janet songs with your impeccable taste, please.

I love most music so it's pretty hard to go wrong, I just don't want anything that sounds too dated. I haven't been listening to much pop lately but when I have it's usually something like Adore You or Rooting For My Baby from Miley, so don't hold out on songs like that. I'm always down for certified bops as well.

Her entire Control album is amazing :diane: My favorite. Period. So check that!

And this CLASSIC

these  hits you may already know :diane:

And these more poppy/current songs tbh

Girl it's so hard, I'd say breeze through her hit compilations and see what you like and find an era that works for you and then explore casually but these are some of my faves :diane:

JLO deliberately took part in sabotaging Mariah with Tommy Matola. I'm surprised that you didn't find a video pertaining to that whilst pulling up this one. And please don't act like JLO is so innocent when she was caught browsing a social media site while Mariah was performing.

Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.

Well tbh as regards JLO, I don't know her!:giggle: Jlo doesn't interest me at all.

I've never really been a big fan of Mariah's music give or take a few songs.  but I think she's funny. Her "shady" videos on youtube are by far the most entertaining.

There are 3parts btw. The only diva to have more than one series lol. The Barbara Walters Niki Minaj reference is hilarious.

I agree she did way better in the UK than either of the other two.

I think you are making the mistake of equating powerful vocals and octave range with being a good singer. There are 1000's of session singers up and down the country that will never hit the big time that can hit notes that Madonna never will be able to and carry a tune. The reason being a singer isn't just about "hitting the notes". It's also about tone, melody and most of all-emotion. I think you're doing Madonna a great disservice by dismissing her vocals on what is undoubtedly one of the best female albums of all time. The emotion that is delivered in Oh father or Promise to Try  holds much more conviction to me than Mariah being able to shatter a glass with her octave range.

Both of them have their place. Mariah is undoubtedly an amazing technical singer. But,  I personally never cared for the actual tone of her voice. To me, someone like Kylie  conveys more emotions than Mariah Carey and Kylie is not a "great technical singer". They all have a seat at the table and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

I mean, I agree with a majority of this, which is why I stan Gaga - technically, she's an amazing singer, but her tone is also robust and she conveys emotion like the best of them. She's the whole package, not pieces of a whole like these women we have in the poll above.

Mariah's emotive vocals are on point, far more visceral than anything Madonna's capable of, and I've heard the latter's discography up and down, sideways and back. "My All" is literally the be all end all, and "Mine Again"? It's next level, soul-baring. I adore Mariah's tone, but to each their own. I don't doubt Madonna's strengths - they lie more in the visual aspects of performance. But her voice has never done it for me, with an exception here and there. But as was said before, they each have their strengths, which is why OP placed them in the poll together. Too bad I chose neither of them :ladyhaha:

Also, Like a Prayer is one of my least favorite Madonna records overall :rip: Oh Father is a stand out though, along with Til Death Do Us Part. And Spanish Eyes is cute.

That's exactly correct. Madge sings live and nails it. She made a cover of La Vie En Rose for her last tourand people went absolutely mad, and they were impressed by her vocal range.

Mariah, on the other side, lipsyncs more than Britney. So...

Britney hasn't sang a note live since her Vegas residency started, and I stan her. I'm typing this in a Britney shirt. But nobody lipsynchs more than Britney.

Mariah only lip synchs the high notes that she no longer can hit due to aging and her damaging her vocal chords. I'm not making an excuse, but that's just incorrect.

Madonna is an amazing business woman. She paved the way for everyone and created the modern pop star. She pushed boundaries and set trends. But she is no vocalist. I'm not saying you cannot prefer her vocals, however she is not technically a very talented singer. However that's not her intention, she's an artist and a performer. Music is just an outlet for that. Mariah however, is a singer/songwriter.

That's not even an opinion, it just factual. I prefer how Britney sings to Beyoncé, but I would be deluded to say that Britney is a better singer because she doesn't have the ability or range of Beyoncé. You could prefer Selena Gomez whispering over Whitney Houston's belts but technically she is not better. Its a talent and skill to sing.

But you are still undoubtedly right about how Madonna was far more popular in the U.K. than either Janet or Mariah.

Doesn't the sabotage stem from JLO sampling a song that Mariah was gonna sample?
