And now she has nothing to prove anymore (commercial wise at least). Normally the artists are about 45 or older when this happens. Not 31 and in their vocal prime. She is crossing her first decade soon but she needs to reaffirm an upswing in her career at least. then again she doesn't seem to care anymore, and in retrospect, Joanne is already commercially and critically bigger than an album from another pop girl of a comparable tier, so what do i know i just still somehow believe Gaga will be the Madonna of our generation. or im delulu Flyin' like a 1000 Doves

Actually Gaga followed Britney and Madonna in terms of being big so fast, and the latter two crossed their decade with continued moderate commercial success, public interest and/or critical acclaim. Only difference is Britney is the only one among the three who couldn't really sing properly, so I never considered her a contender to be the next Madonna. Gaga had the makings of it, ALL of it. And while I know she wants to be more than just the next Madonna, one can not deny how massive the impact and longevity of Madonna is that even though she's boxed in pop, she's still the best in it. I just want the younger generation asking us eventually who Lady Gaga is and we answer them the way our parents would answer for Madonna and her career  /rant Flyin' like a 1000 Doves
nick4bty 2,758
Gaga still has a lot to prove, just not with basic trendy pop music. She had something to prove with Joanne and MR, and through her endless promotion (and label help) she got it to 70M AI, 1M digital sales, #4 peak, and Joanne was a commercial and critical success. But for basic pop music, that ship has sailed, that's why she's paying no attention to TC. She'll promote the **** out of the movie and soundtrack though, so we can at least look forward to that

Madonna never set trends, only followed them. The minuted Gaga started following trends (ARTPOP) she got left behind. Gaga is best when she's doing her own thing, always has been. Look at how many artists are taking a Joanne-approach now with their music. The younger generation knows Gaga. Everyone knows Gaga. She's one of the most recognizable names in entertainment and always will be. Just like Madonna, or Cher, or anyone who's had insane longevity.
