Wish Gaga could stop pushing herself so hard, and write normal love songs like she used to before the Fame. Second time around, Captivated........ But love is never normal so why would Gaga want to write about it as though it is? Love is the most complex thing there is, and her lyrics reflect this sense of ambivalence, ambiguity and not knowing. She never forces us to think like her. She wants us to figure out our own ideas about love, though metaphors, hidden meanings and other rhetorical devices. That's one reason why I admire her - she treats us with enough respect to form our own opinions.

Dominic 11,922
Better? No. Different? Yes. Gaga can make an earworm. She knows how to write a killer hook and chorus. Lorde seems more suited to verses and her music is more of a narrative. Where Gaga soars Lorde falls short and vice versa. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
Slayer 9,227
Yeah. Sorry but yeah. Gaga's lyrics often leave something to be desired... I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!
Prada 1,200
I think every songwriter wants to do one thing.Either catch the happiest feeling or get lost in the darkness. I can't say Gaga has the happiest depth in her lyrics but she is the queen of Darkness. btw Darkness is not something Lana Del Rey and Lorde does(as some of us think),they try to but they are just heartbroken citizens but Gaga writes like fierze queen.I mean first time I heard DITD I literally felt like snakes were chasing me,I was trapped, place was a scorching desert.Only Bjork and Gaga makes me feel that way. Lazarus 425
Look, it's simple, ho- They're very different artists, with very different voices and styles. If you want to be down to the wire... Gaga can write amazing, explosive, memorable choruses in any musical style. She is very good at costuming her music... Hence how the same woman that sang the line "When I lay in bed I touch myself and think of you" or coined the phrase "ear condom" can sing a song about her late aunt. Lorde doesn't have the same knack for sticky choruses, but that isn't really the point of her music. Lorde always translates an emotion in her music, she relies more heavily on the small depths and touches, sonically and songwriting-wise, to carry her work. Aside from that, her voice isn't really cut out for explosive choruses... It's emotive, but not grand or powerful in the same way Gaga's is. Which isn't to say Lorde has bad vocals, she simply makes the most of what she does have. Good lyrics, though... Lorde is much more plentiful in this suit, I believe. She can really push emotions with the way she writes and how she delivers. Gaga has a lot of interesting ideas and lyrics, but doesn't have the same consistency and finesse that Lorde has developed. Neither is worse than the other. They simply have different strengths and weaknesses. ugh
