I just find it hilarious how some people in the US show their lack of empathy as they sit in their air conditioned homes living a privileged lifestyle and holding more wealth than 80% of humanity in a territory obtained through slaughtering millions of Natives and benefitting off imperialism and colonialism until this day.

Literally it is not easy to just get citizenship you have to have a bit of wealth to apply. My grandma on my moms side came through the system thanks to her being born into wealth in Mexico and was able to afford it. On my fathers side of the family they were dirt poor and literally didn't have anything in Mexico, they saved up just enough to get someone to cross them over. I've seen both sides and all they want it to create a brighter future for their families. Everyone that is illegal in my family pays taxes and contributes to this country. They also bust their asses 5am-7pm to allow their kids an education.

I can speak from my experience now that it's not easy to get a visa.

Costa Rica guys, not US or Europe, is doing a hell to my husband and I to get a visa for me, we came here because he got a job here so he got the residency immediately but I didn't and we are LEGALLY married in Italy and France. but because same sex marriage are ILLEGAL here, I am nothing, just a tourist. my family is divided.

If I pass the 90 days even by 1 day, I become ILLEGAL, just like this mother.

simple as that.

So to sh-it on this mother like she's the worst criminal ever is disgusting, because even I, a western world person, can be in the same situation.

Every situation is different and you can't just generalize it. It's dehumanizing in the sense that you wouldn't care if she entered the country legal. All I'm seeing from your perspective is that "Oh, it's against the law, it's wrong".

Everything's not just black and white. We need to learn to have compassion for other people in their situation.

Every situation is different, but you can't just erase the need to legally enter. People who are in awful situations still enter legally.

She did break the law, and it's not dehumanizing to say she did, because she did.

Yes, but ITINs numbers can be used for a plethora of things other than undocumented immigrants. For example, well-known foreign investors will oftentimes get an ITINs number when investing within our borders.

 

Most illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. Plain and Simple. I'm not going to sugar coat anything in the name of political correctness or sympathy.  For example, the number of people with ITINs numbers does not even remotely equate to the number of undocumented immigrants that are currently residing within the US. We can't simply say "many pay taxes" and that they have an "INITs number" in order to offset the fact that the woman was breaking the law and that most do not pay taxes.  While her intentions may have been pure (I have no reason to doubt that they were), it is illegal. (I'm not trying to be shady or cunty)

 

I couldn't tell if this post was directed at me, but I already knew what an ITINs number was prior to my last post (didn't need to "look it up"). Moreover, my post was about getting as many people temporary residency and a mechanism to work legally. The more people working within our borders the better in my opinion. I was simply trying to offer an economic alternative that many people in the party that I align most with would support (not Republicans and Democrats). I just wanted to bring up the economic benefits many of these illegal immigrants bring. 

 

Sorry if this post came off as a little bitter. I am just so frustrated, as I see both the inept policies of the Republicans and Democrats that don't actually fix anything. Democrats (many) just want to let everyone in to increase their leverage during election cycles. Republicans (many) just want to deport them. We just need middle ground in making a piece of legislation that would positively affect this whole scenario

You can't erase that they legally need to enter, but at the same time, you have to have compassion. Again, every situation is different, and I feel like you're not getting that. 

And so would trying to break segregated schools be wrong because it was once the law to have schools separated?

You're very right - but it also has a lot to do with disgusting politicians shoving anti-immigrant rhetoric down people's throats in rural areas where they've never even seen an immigrant in real life before. Lots of people don't know how ignorant they are just because that's all they've heard their entire life. It's not 'ignorant' to them. Don't get me started it makes me so angry

The process to make it easier would be very long and strenuous. I'm not against the idea, of course, it would be ideal for it to be easier for families to enter legally.

Also, you can have compassion and still not act like these people aren't humans. "We can have compassion by making it easier...", how about, we can have compassion by understanding their situations. 

Also, the point of that analogy was to show that we need to show empathy and sympathy.

Wasn't aimed at you but I agree! I wasn't trying to equate the number of ITINs to the number of undocumented immigrants. I was just stating that there are many people who are undocumented who do pay taxes, although they may not be the majority (I actually don't have the data rn to say). 

I agree that there needs to be a middle ground where this issue is resolved. Too many lives are being ruined.
