I'm neither gonna define myself (as a representative of the letter "B") by the flag nor by the preconceived notions of the LGBTQ community. Do I think the change to the flag is stupid? Oh yes, colossally so. If I were in Philadelphia, would I care enough to go protest the construction/utilization of this new flag? Eh, probably not. It brings awareness, but to all of the wrong reasons. As you've said, no one is actually talking about the actual issues of misrepresentation of POC in the LGBTQ+ community, people are only talking about how this is making them angry. Also, the difference between the meaning of the colors on the flag is that they aren't specific to one demographic. Things like life, nature, peace, spirituality, etc. are general things that can be seen in everyone no matter what color you are. The way to improve this wouldn't be to change the flag. It would be helping POC get more representation in the media, and actual educate people on the subject. This, again, brings awareness, but for all the wrong reasons. If anything, this will make people less inclined to the movement and the actual problems at hand. This isn't a "topic starter". It's unnecessary. However, they should realize that not everyone will follow suit and not be offended when nobody else adopts that design in their flags. Also, where are the white, beige, and tan stripes at? This just isn't the correct way to address it, if this was a way to bring awareness that would be great but altering the pride flag permanently will divide people even more. I could go on and on about the level of outrage being what I'm most talking about - we both agree there are issues about representation and inclusion and the flag as is tending to not stand for all LGBTQ+ persons, we both agree this won't change anything on its own. Having done more research, its actually heading off a new baby movement called "More color, more pride" in the city of Philadelphia where the community is especially toxic to LGBT PoC apparently. So yay to that and may it be fruitful to other conversations and actual action. Maybe this hurts their cause, idk. It's a shame that it should though, as the outrage is undeserved.
