The rage over black people saying "hey, we are excluded" is telling tbh.

And if its actually just rage over one location saying "hey, lets change the flag" ya'll need to choose your battles better  It's not like "that's it folks! the official 1 and only flag of the LGBT community is now a rainbow + 2 other colors!"  

Not even gonna touch it if its as basic and asinine as "it doesn't look as good" or "its not a real rainbow anymore"

My thoughts are so divided on this. On the one hand it's not a logically cohesive thing to add racial representation to the LGBTQ flag. This sends confusing messages and I worry this might have been a tactically bad choice. On the other hand putting the logic aside it's definitely a nice symbolic sign/step to focus the attention on a really important issue. Then again, the flag is kind of ugly to put it plainly. It does not make sense to me why they added two (really similar) colours for one additional concept except to make it an even number. It's not well executed imo. A little addition to that, a German article pointed out how this flag will probably not find much acceptance in Germany as brown has a strong association with nazis and black is the color of the conservative party blocking gay rights.

I mean, as both gay and a POC, I find this completely unnecessary. Two colors will not change anything. If they really wanted to make a change, they try to get more representation of LGBTQPOC in other forms of media.

My issue isn't with the aestheic of the flag, but the fact that they made the flag into something that isn't even related to LGBTQ+ rights, to me at least, doesn't make any sense.

Like, the flag was never a symbol of race. It was about sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. no race.

Yes, there are issues regarding race in the LGBTQ+ community, and as a community we need to do better to work through that, but this isn't going to solve the issue.

yeah, i think the real change would have to come in the LGBTQ community itself i guess  maybe grindr and other influential people need to call out racists and try to drag & educate them

This just starts a whole new debate about who isn't included as a color on the flag. I've always loved the pride flag because I knew it meant I would be accepted for who I was. It didn't matter what color you were you'd be loved for your sexuality regardless. This just confuses me cause I'd usually be supportive of something like this but the flag was never about race. Racism is real in the community let's be real about that. This just isn't the correct way to address it, if this was a way to bring awareness that would be great but altering the pride flag permanently will divide people even more.

Okay it's a supremely stupid idea. But maybe it has some use though, I know that a lot of black families can be much more anti-gay than others, at least in some communities. So maybe highlighting that can be productive.
