KarmaPolice 4,731
I just figured this out. The Paparazzi's video storyline follows (clearly not 100%) the story of the movie Sunset Boulevard, starring an almost-forgotten silent film star Norma Desmond, that falls in love with a man called Joe Gillis, who promise her to make her a star again with a movie called Salome. Jumping right at the end of the story: Joe bluntly informs her that the public has forgotten her, there will be no comeback. As Joe walks away, Norma shoots him three times and he falls into the pool. Norma's mansion is subsequently filled with policemen and reporters. Now having lost touch with reality, she believes the newsreel cameras are there to film Salome. Max (her butler) pretends to set up a scene for her and calls "Action!" As the cameras roll, Norma dramatically descends her grand staircase. She pauses and makes an impromptu speech about how happy she is to be making a film again, concluding with the famous line, "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up." AlexanderMagno 10,746
Have you seen the movie? Paparazzi has nothing to do with Sunset Boulevard. You're saying Gaga is Norma? Norma Desmond is an old forgotten cinema star paranoid about her comeback, although she's really, really, really old and out of touch with the world. Joe is a writer trying to thrive in Hollywood at Norma's expenses, till he realises Norma is extremely possessive. He tells her the truth about how she's over (she really is), tries to leave and she kills him. When the police arrives at her house, she's so mentally unstable she takes it as her majestic walk on the red carpet. Paparazzi is about a famous star, Gaga, who is betrayed by her boyfriend. Tabloids claim her career is over. She then plans her revenge, kills her boyfriend and comes back to being the It Girl. The only similarity between the two plots is that the female star kills the male star. Both killings make the female star come back to the spotlight, but in Paparazzi the tabloids take it as a real star comeback, while in Sunset Blv the "comeback" happens only inside Norma's head, for the press it's about the murder. Luxe Ford 3,481
I can't really see the connection. it's a fabulous movie especially as Gloria Swanson practically plays herself, a former superstar that refuses see that time has caught up with her. Go Norma! Not that there are parallels, but Gaga would be perfect for a remake. But ASIB will do nicely for now. Useless perfume nerd trivia: Norma holds the round, black bottle of Caron's Narcisse Noir in a scene. A debauched perfume Ms. Swanson wore personally. What happens in Luxe Ford stays in Luxe Ford
