It's just a hostile environment, everywhere. The culture is very aggressive. You feel safe because you've lived there your entire life. From the outside looking in, or as somebody who has only visited, who has lived in a country that genuinely does feel safe, I can assure you, you are not as safe as you could be and it's a shame and that has a lot to do with how hateful and angry so many people are in the US, their propensity for guns, and a government who has always jumped immediately to war. The majority of the country is in the midst of the lowest overall crime rate this decade. Maine? That's not a hostile state. What's hostile about it? What do you not get when people tell you they have never seen a gun, except on a police officer? I've never been a victim of crime or known anyone else to be where I live. Wait...someone did steal one of my friend's phones at school once. Jumped immediately to war? Um...on our soil? I think you are throwing everything out there to try and make the reality match your imagination...the problem is that it is not most people's reality. I am scared to travel to the UK and France. What kind of logic is this? We've had three terror attacks in the UK this year - which is a huge anomaly, btw. You guys have had more incidents in the past two days than we've had all year, seventeen shootings overall this month, and it's only the 14th. I totally accept the view that the US is much larger and has a bigger population - I certainly wouldn't call it a disgusting country - but it's dumb and inaccurate to pretend that deadly attacks aren't more frequent there. And it definitely makes zero sense to say you're afraid of the UK and Europe because of a few isolated attacks whilst simultaneously attempting to claim that the US is very safe and secure. If there isn't a problem with guys, why do you have so many? And why do so many people die per capita compared to other first wolrd, developed, countries? What's going on there? That is a problem. You're super lucky to have never seen a gun. That's great. Unfortunately that is not a reality for most people, especially considering how many guns there actually are. But you're denying that there is a problem at all and that is also a problem. What you're not seeming to understand is that the perception of the US from other countries is that it is inherently aggressive and hostile, and when we visit there, we feel that as well (except for perhaps halfway down the east coast, and California). It is a huge culture shock to go to the US expecting it to be similar to Canada and realize that people live completely differently than you do, just across the road. I never said there isn't a problem at all, just that I don't feel unsafe...and neither do my family and friends. It's a huge culture shock to go to any country, even one that is so close. I've been to Canada many times and it's not that different from the US. Everything isn't as nice, fancy, etc. and tv sucks...and stuff costs way more...but other than that, it's pretty similar. Aggressive and hostile? Yeah...I don't get that any I've been all over the US. Drivers are kind of crazy in certain parts of the country, like NYC, but I've experienced way scarier driving situations in Europe! Lol

I want the American's/North American's on this forum to think about how the rest of the world must view this disgusting country, knowing only what they see in the news. Imagine if this were happening anywhere else in the world, how villainized that country would become by Western media. I guess they're really sleeping in the beds they've made for themselves. This is so disrespectful. The only thing that's disgusting is you damning a whole country of great people. What a shame.

Deaths by gun violence in the States eclipses every other country exponentially. A whole bunch of countries in South America disagree with you! 41 minutes ago, baptism said: Safe is not a mass shooting almost every day. 154 mass shootings this year, 163 days elapsed this year. That's using one organization's broad definition. How you define a mass shooting impacts how many there are. As the old saying goes, 'lies, damned lies, and statistics'. I prefer Mother Jones' definition. It better fits what most people think of when they hear the term 'mass shooting'. Under Mother Jones' definition, their have been only FOUR mass shootings in the United States in 2017. "The Gun Violence Archive defines mass shootings as incidents in which four or more people are shot (injured or killed) in a single event, at the same general time and location, not including the shooter. Other sources like Mother Jones use a narrower definition. To be considered a mass shooting under the outlet’s guidelines, the perpetrator, or in rare cases perpetrators, must kill at least four people in a single location, usually a public place. Mother Jones also excludes most crimes that are primarily related to gang activity, armed robbery or domestic violence. Using their definition, there have been four mass shootings so far this year. Wednesday’s incidents are not among them." 38 minutes ago, Whispering said: Gun violence was the same two, five, ten years ago. Now they have a victim card to play and a villain card to throw onto the left and anyone that criticizes Trump/the GOP. Democrats and liberals are going to be seen as sympathizers of an attempted murderer. That shooter was an idiot Also, it's just objectively wrong to think violence solves anything. Every house I've been in has a gun either displayed, hidden for protection, or both. Everyone I know has a gun. Hell, even I'm planning on getting a gun sometime For me, it isn't the guns that make me feel unsafe. They're just tools, after all. Things. It's the copious amounts of gun owners that have no business even being near a gun that makes me uneasy. But this is the U.S. you can get a bucket of chicken, a pair of pants, an iPhone charger, and a gun in the same store and be out in ~30 minutes. At least, in some states you can. In Florida you can Spoiler I hate this place But yeah, statistically speaking, we are safer these days even if we don't feel like we are.
