Massive fire in a London building

This makes me scared. My old ass apartment building has no fire alarm or sprinklers or a fire escape. If this happens all I can do is hope I survive a 4rth floor jump.

I feel so so bad for the people there. Burning must be the scariest and most painful way to go. Can't they spray it with helicopters like during forest fires?!?

Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton's Statement:

 

"This is an unprecedented incident. In my 29 years of being a firefighter I have never ever seen anything of this scale. Firefighters are working very hard at the moment.

This is a major fire that effected all floors of this 24 storey building from the second floor upwards. I have over 200 of my firefighters and officers attending this incident, with 40 fire engines and a range of specialist vehicles, including 14 fire rescue units. We declared this a major incident very early this morning ... the first call coming in at 12.54. Our first fire engines were on the scene in under six minutes.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus and extended duration breathing apparatus have been working in extremely challenging and very difficult conditions to rescue people and bring this major fire under control.

London Ambulance Service have confirmed that 30 people have been taken to five hospitals.

I am very sad to confirm that there have been a number of fatalities. I cannot confirm the number at this time due to the size and complexity of this building. It would clearly be wrong for me to speculate further.

Equally the cause of this fire is not known at this stage.

We are working very closely with our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service to bring this situation under control.

Buy a three story Fire Escape Ladder. You can get one for about sixty dollars and it will store under your bed or in a closet in your bedroom. Then you will just have to drop down a few feet. And buy smoke alarms for your apartment!

Had a £10m renovation in 2013 and they didn't install a sprinkler system? 

Supposedly a fridge exploded in one of the flats and the tenant went to warn other tenants but the fire was spreading too fast.

Someone created a rope of blankets, but unfortunately it stops 30 feet short of the pavement.

another horrible thing about this is that it will probably let out a bunch of toxic fumes to the people living in that entire area  this is really really bad.

These tower buildings are so complex to combat in the event of fire and the design breaches modern fire safety regulations as they were built in the 60's/70's.

At least 6 dead, expected to rise significantly. R.I.P so sad. The images on BBC news reminded me of 9/11 when I was just 7 but thankfully not terrorism related. Can the UK catch a break from all these tragedies

This is absolutely terrifying and one of my worse fears. I can't imagine how they must have felt.

Yeah, just seen the update. Expected to rise even more. Lots of children & young people

Apparently the renovation that took place in 2016 replaced the outside with plastic coverings, which is predicted to have helped the fire spread from the outside so quickly. The fire escapes were completely engulfed too.
