Ok. So now where is that one cocky KatyCat that loved to be on here named after a kitchen utensil who LOVED putting Gaga down?

I eagerly await his return.

Who;s this? Katy Pan? Ladle Perry?

Just like Gaga, but for different reasons, she damaged her brand. The Taylor Swift feud, rolling so hard for Hillary Clinton, cutting her iconic hair, chosing a new musical path and a more sexual route instead of following the "pop candy" path she always took ... And of course the fact that sales are lower now, are all the reasons why she's in a difficult part of her career.

(I don't need any "blah blah she's proud of her hair, her opinion, etc". This is the general public we're talking about. The public DOESN'T CARE of "reasons" ("music not the bling", "that's an artistic decision, etc"), they'll only focus on what they dislike. That's how mass audiences and brands work.)

One possible reason is the "controversial" lyrics and the video. It's the first thing the public see after 3 years or so. Maybe it was a turn off for the general public. Idk what reason, but I think it maybe had some unexpected negative effect on Katy Perry as brand.

Edit: Also her new look could have an effect. It wasn't nice. I mean, after so many years with black hair... And when it also reminded of Bieber, Pink and Miley I at least didn't like it to start with. Felt like she was only copying, not creating something interesting.

Edit2: Not hating on her, just making theories about what could have happened. It is odd. Maybe even her age... idk.

Edit3: I was thinking about Beyoncé some days ago. The success of Crazy in love was idk 10 years ago or something? with Jay-Z. And Drunk In Love with Jay-Z was kinda somehow the same only 10 years after and it had so much success. Beyoncé has cracked the code for longevity. I wish Gaga cracks it some day.

theres also more room for rap / rnb artists. Pop was bigger during 2008-2012, now its in decline and mainstream music is so fragmented. there is less clear direction, and rap and rnb do well because they are way more popular with younger audiences and by result new platforms for music consumption.

At this point i think they should recalibrate how they count sps points but its just my opinion.

What matters most in the first week is debuting number 1.  That's already a success.  HOWEVER this might sell less than Joanne.  Joanne had a flop single and the worst promo Gaga has ever done yet Witness might sell less.  Also what really matters is the second week. How far will the sales drop?  How far down will it go on BB?  Didn't Joanne stay number 1 for two weeks? It also had the lowest drop since TFM.

Guys no, nobody remembers if an album debuts at #1. If it flops after a #1 debut, people will still remember it has a FLOP and not has a number 1 album.

It's like y'all didn't learn nothing from ARTPOP :toofunny:

Damn.  The album has dropped to 51 on Metacritic.  Her lowest rated album so far.

That's true. I also feel that some years ago hip-hop and R&B were also very popular. Maybe in some years again history will repeat it self? And if our popstars keep doing what they are doing maybe they will reign again. Maybe Gaga knew it's just the times and that's why she's just doing whatever she wants musically at this point. Maybe she knows she's gonna win again.

At the end of the day, she's still scoring a number one, which is what most people will remember. I doubt anyone other than die-hard fans know the sales of Like A Virgin or Bedtime Stories.

sis she might not even get #1....SZA may snatch that spot
