Totally missed the point. This is a situation where quantity does not equal quality. Also a view is not the same as an album purchase. Beyonce is Beyonce, she can sell albums, and have massive sold out shows. Something The Chainsmokers cannot do as well in. But streaming performance does not equate to much really in my opinion, I hate how it's seen as so important. And I hate the chart system rules that are set in place nowadays. You said that Beyonce doesn't have 1b views, making it look like she is some sort of benchmark for streaming, while she clearly isn't as she is greatly lagging behind in that area, due to (imo) very poor marketing choices, designed solely to keep hype around her. There is really nothing else to add, and no subtext to understand, because quality is subjective - we're talking about Beyonce, she did not compose some Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, she's an urban/pop singer - and it would be REALLY hard to argue that the CS aren't much more relevant than Beyonce right now. Of course, Beyonce's impact through her cross-millennium career can't be compared to the CS, but that doesn't mean that she is in a particularly good spot right now, streaming wise. So really, what is the point I missed? A final note: while you may not like the billboard system, it is pretty balanced. A single sale equals some 200 streams, so personally I think that sales are being slightly inflated to keep the relevant.

The point was not to suggest that Beyonce was a benchmark for streaming. The point was to suggest that Beyonce, an artist with a huge legacy in the music industry, does not have videos that garner a lot of views, which you agreed to. The Chainsmokers, on the contrary, is being deemed as basic, generic, and trend-following despite the fact that they are artists with good streaming performance. I'm saying the artists which truly matter and are here to stay and leave a mark in the music business are the ones with talent, artists like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Lady Gaga being examples, and these are artists which sometimes don't fare well in streaming. All this CS hate is only happening in pop stans forums or Twitter, which alas do not reflect the GP. It is obviously too soon to tell whether the CS are here to stay - they haven't been in the scene long enough to have any legacy - but at the moment they are far more relevant than Beyoncé or Lady Gaga or JT (lol), not because of their streaming power but because of their success with the yongest generation, which is reflected in their streaming power. I was talking about quality, artistic integrity and career longevity which are more closely related to talent which are not defined by views. I wasn't talking about popularity. The CS are an EDM group and they do EDM music. Beyonce is an RnB/ pop singer and has had both RnB/urban and pop tunes - specifically, she had a pure pop phase when pop music was at its peak. There is no outstanding artistic integrity, or egregious lack of, in neither of the two. 33 minutes ago, Bradley said: career longevity Of course beyonce has had a longer career. But the CS was created 2 or 3 years ago, so it's mathematically impossible for them to have Beyonce's longevity RIGHT NOW. Your fallacious point is that they won't maintain their success, but that's nothing but wishful thinking from your parts. Facts are that the CS are far more popular than Beyonce at the moment, as reflected by their streaming numbers.

Facts are that the CS are far more popular than Beyonce at the moment, as reflected by their streaming numbers. I could type a long post but I decided to summarise my point in one short sentence: Online views do not matter. There are artists like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, or Lady Gaga who have videos which barely get more than 200 million views. Yet there are artists like The Chainsmokers, Alan Walker who have videos which gained so many views but are less revered when compared to the artists aforementioned, who have made their mark and established their legacies in the music industry. I wasn't commenting on The Chainsmokers' career achievements, and I am very well aware that they are relatively new when compared to Beyonce's decade-spanning career. And I never claimed it to be fair to compare their achievements when they both have spent a different amount of time in the business. I was talking about why views didn't matter. You chose to delve on a completely different topic.
