That said, I really, really do not like the writing. I feel like they could give the actors and characters much better material than weird pseudo-"nerd" pandering, and lowkey awkward portrayals of women, especially women in science. The other scientists that are guys are also awkward AF, with the acception being Leonard (which is why him and Penny are great because they're the least awkward ones on the show). I agree though that the writing has been getting quite reductive/boring. I don't mean awkward as in "awkward characteristics"- of course nearly all of the main cast are "awkward male scientists". I mean, it's not outright sexist, but they sometimes write women weird. But as I said, the actors (especially the woman who is an actual scientist) play it off as well as they can.
