Borislshere 53,086
It's so irritating seeing Non-Black people telling black people how they should and shouldn't react to people saying this word. If a black person is fine with him saying it, cool for them but a lot of us are not.
babyboo 965
Im not from the US and i dont get it. Why is it SO offensive when non black say the word *****? You don't have to be the brightest bulb to get that.

While some say "it's just a word" and "look how he used it", he could have easily said "n" or "slave". I am still a fan, yet glad he apologized. I've been called the n word, and fought over it. It's still one of the most demeaning things one can say. Not all black people use it, just like not a gay people use the f word. I'm glad he apologized, and truly don't think he meant it to hurt, just a poor choice. An honest, fair and balanced response. Thank you!

Oh well, that's what I get for discussing social issues on Gagadaily. I will help you out here. As someone who lives in the Deep South, in the city where MLK was assasinated, I can tell you that racism is still very much alive in the US. The N word has deep historical context, that anyone that lives here understands. Over the past the past few decades, black people have been taking back the word. It is THEIR word to use. Many black people, especially those in the older generations, do not feel comfortable using the n word in a casual manner. The N word can be a controversial word, but still acceptable for black people...but it is not a word for others to use. It doesn't belong to non-black people. It is always seen as controversial if white people use it in the US, due to historical context.

It is always seen as controversial if white people use it in the US, due to historical context. I think you may have misquoted me... Because my original post was closely followed by a second one that said they don't understand why saying the N word in a non-hateful manner by a white person is wrong (to which your post is an appropriate response). My post said I don't understand why black people don't "bury" the word, get rid of it, because it is charged with such a violent and dark past (for example, I imagine one of the ancient black slaves found out their future generations are going to be freed from slavery, but still call each other slaves for 'fun'. How would it make them feel?), and because due to its frequent use in Hip Hop, Eastern cultures or cultures that haven't experienced a racial revolution do not understand the severity of that word and use it nonchalantly with no repercussions (I gave an example of people calling each other that at my school as a slang word for "bro", literally having no clue what it implies). But as someone nicely stated I have no business in this matter and should mind my own problems. Nowhere did I imply that using the N-word by a white person could be excused, which seems to be the main point of your post. I also noticed how you said "I can tell you that racism is very much alive", which is an appropriate response to someone saying "racism is gone these days". However, if you check the post you quoted me in, I say "other people are out there actually saying the n-word to black people and discriminating against them", which means I know racism is still very present. I hope that removes any misunderstanding. chaeri pls

Since you stated that you couldn't get a direct answer on a social issue on GGD, I was trying to give you that. My answer was an explanation to all your comments. I didn't say that you thought that using the n word was ok. I don't think that. Black people are taking back the word, to give it less power...make it hurt less...to own it...in their own community. That doesn't mean that it still doesn't come with significant negative connotations when said by others outside of their community.

Just black people can say the N word? Well, many people in Mexico have a poor culture so why is it wrong to say it? Many male members of my family say those words and they think it's funny when it's not. I mean, if you're gonna use it use it well, but they mean it as an insult - that's one of the reasons why I keep most of my life private.
