I have mixed feelings about it, there aren't many tracks that would be exceptionally good but a lot of mediocre ones that could be growers. Nevertheless it's her best album I love how it doesn't sound and look like she's catering to the children anymore and that's why I think this is the first Katy era I'm interested in. DiamondAngel 5,044 Posted June 8, 2017 Share Posted June 8, 2017 So my overall thoughts on the album: I've never expected deep artistic metaphors or great lyrics or high quality art from Katy. So I won't discuss the subpar lyrics and cliches. But she sounds empowered on this album, and she definitely did what she wanted to do. Unlike her last two releases, I don't see obvious attempts at hits here. The album isn't my cup of tea and quality wise, it's not that great to me, but I can recognize that even though I don't like it, I think she did a good job, and I'm proud of her. My favorites are the the ballads. She's one of those rare artists who's best when she's most vulnerable. The moments in which she allows herself to be weak are much better than those where she sings about being strong (a theme she's overdoing on this one). But one part of being a strong confident person is being vulnerable and accepting/processing your emotions. So, no, this is not a great piece of art like say, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or Lemonade. Its got a lot of bad moments and a few good ones. But I think Katy loves it, and is confident about it. So who really cares what we think? She accomplished exactly what she wanted to! Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
