The music video of John Wayne and its connection to Marry the night video.

In the beginning of the video it's showing a new Gaga, but still in her own league, she's relaxed, she made it to the top but nonetheless got her own problems. Though we can see the industry does not stop yet has achieved little compared to Gaga's craziness and appeals to her musical taste. John Wayne is a reference to how he was known as the duke of the western movies at the time, also to potent cannabis, as related to her lines among "Mary Jane Holland". She's implying that she has been there done that.

We then see Gaga trying to fit herself in within the industry again, unify with the popular side. We can see that these so called artist the video referring to has physical material and shine but lack the spirit. It looks somewhat status quo and it is boring to be in a loop constantly. Notice how many of them are in the same car, resembling a big corporation carrying all of them to fame. Remember Born this way cover?

We then see one with Gaga, dressed to look like an outsider yet he is so familiar with his everything that he just fails and becomes an insider. Gaga doesn't care anymore, she doesn't mind where she stands as long as she can be herself which she already accomplished. She goes into full madness but stays within limits at the same time. Because she is there to pave the way not because she wants to sit on the throne alone. She's having fun. The guys in the car before it applauding her style by the roadside. She throws her guitar to the car, smashes "glass windows". She kills her alter ego at the final scene saying that there's more to her than it looks.

She walks alone with her guitar with the photo of  John Wayne stuck on the back. There's a somewhat 60s and 70s filter in the video, perhaps it is a tribute to her Aunt. She shows that as long as she has her music, she doesn't need to be defined by the industry.

You start your thread saying there is a connection between Marry the Night and John Wayne videos, but after reading your review I can't see where that connection is :flop: sure, both represent Gaga's career and state of mind at different periods of her life, but other than that I don't see why both would be associated.

As for your analysis, I think you're overthinking it. The music industry you talk about... I don't see how this video is alluding to the music industry. It seems to me more about Gaga's own behaviour and decisions, nothing to do with the industry. Nothing you're saying comes to my mind while watching it.

Sorry, everything you've written is a big no for me.

dont think your analysis made sense as nothing in the video alluded to connect to MTN, nor did your analysis make the supposed connection any clearer,, sorry.

sometimes i think people overthink poetry and art. but sometimes we completely glance over something that has such powerful meaning, and pop culture pays dust to it. basically: we have no balance.

Spoiler

the JW doesnt make sense to me but i love it nonetheless because of the epic neon lighting and crazyGa's revival

If you interpret MTN correctly, it is all about her career. The cars, mostly in her videos, represent the record companies. You have to look closer on the details to get the picture. How do people forget BTW times so easily.

It's not overthinking, at least for me, it's very given in the video.

Eh, I think you're looking at it a little too metaphorically
