Halsey’s new album is the first by a woman to be No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2017. The last leading lady to top the chart was Lady Gaga, whose Joanne album debuted on the list dated Nov. 12, 2016 — more than seven months ago. In the last 12 months, Halsey is only the fourth solo woman to top the Billboard 200, following Lady Gaga, Solange (A Seat at the Table) and Barbra Streisand (Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway). Comparatively, in the last 12 months, 16 men have earned No. 1s (including a pair each for Drake and Future), 10 groups (and only one with a female member: Pentatonix), two soundtracks (Fifty Shades Darker and Suicide Squad) and one compilation (The Hamilton Mixtape).

Women are so screwed. :smh:

I'm genuinely curious about this. Why are women struggling so much (don't say "bad music" when Justin's collabs, The Chainsmokers and others are out there)? I thought Malibu was going to be a SMASH but look at it now. Is this streaming's fault? Are "the bros" that powerful?

No one knows, only streams by premium users count for the charts and certifications.

I think because most straight men don't listen to songs sang by women, when women will listen to songs sang by women AND songs sang by men.

So the songs sang by men have both men and women listening to them so bigger numbers?

And also i think there's more men on streaming platforms like spotify too, so these two things combined helps the men songs to smash

Yup. In Germany only premium streams count for SPS, free streams don't get reported to the German division of the IFPI. Which means free streams from Spotify Germany or YouTube don't affect worldwide SPS.

Maybe. It's a sad situation imo. : /

@ViviLittleM Do you know if the tour it's selling well on scalpers' websites?

We should have a petition (:gaycat:) on the forum about a new single between Dancin' in Circles, Joanne and Angel Down (aka the only unused potential singles from Joanne left) and then have Admin tweet Gaga the public decision from the Gagadaily twitter account, Gaga always reads the GGD tweets. :nails:

It's all about their fragile masculinity i think.

I'm sure tons of them would like some songs sang by women but lots of them see a female artist and say no to the song or fake they don't like it. Hopefully someday people won't be ashamed of listening to female songs

It has already been used for promotion a lot (including the SB), it has charted as a promotional single already, the radio stations are already probably familiar with it from the album release when it had it's time as a promotional single and it is not a fan favorite, which is important for a single this late on the era because the fanbase cares more to promote it. Also promotional singles tend not to do well when they are released as singles that far off their release because a lot of people are already aware of their existance. All in all the song is burned out at this point. It was the best decision right after MR and the SB hype but now not at all...

On the other hand Joanne and Angel Down are ballads which means they can be promoted easier with radio interviews and during the Tour and it is easier to have a video for them + they are in less of a need of a video than a dance song. Gaga also already had success with one ballad this era which will ready the ground. Angel Down is also a very relevant song to 2017 when it comes to the meaning of the song.  DIC is a fan favorite (though the ballads are imo a better choice).

I don't see anything else becoming a single over these 3.
