The previous record holder was Grace Slick of Starship, who was 47 years, 156 days old when their hit "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" began its two-week reign on April 4, 1987. The longest gap between #1 hits on the Hot 100 for an artist is 24 years, 355 days by Cher. Her single "Believe" hit #1 on March 13, 1999, her first time on top since "Dark Lady" on March 23, 1974. Cher also holds the record gap between first and most recent #1 on the Hot 100 over the longest period of time: 33 years, 232 days. The first of three weeks at #1 for "I Got You Babe" by Sonny & Cher was August 14, 1965. The last week at #1 for Cher's "Believe" was April 3, 1999. First female solo artist to ever use Auto-Tune thus making the "Cher effect". Oldest gay icon. Oldest female solo artist to ever have more than 20 top 40. OMG, MY POOR WOMAN HEART! It's a shame that this feat probably couldn't happen in todays age as radio has only gotten more ageist as time goes on. You hardly see older artist topping the charts like you did ten, twenty years ago.
