Pop won't die, No dominant genres

In the past genres like jazz, rock, soul, and hip hop dominated the music scene for years and even decades. But at think that with the rise of the internet and streaming services like Youtube, Spotify, and Apple Music, there will be clusters of trendy genres dominating the music scene instead of one or two genres dominating everything else. To support this claim, lets take a look at the #1 hits of 2016 and 2017 so far:

#1 hits of 2016:

1. Hello: Pop ballad

2. Sorry: Pop/Tropical House

3. Love Yourself: Acoustic Pop

4. Pillowtalk: Electronic R&B

5. Work: Dancehall

5. Panda: Trap

6. One Dance: Dancehall

7. Can't Stop The Feeling: Disco/Pop

8. Cheap Thrills: Synthpop/Tropical House

9. Closer: EDM

10. Black Beatles: Hip Hop/Trap

#1 songs in 2017

1. Starboy: Electronic R&B

2. Bad and Boujee: Trap

3. Shape of You: Pop Tropical House

4. Humble: Hip Hop

5. This Is What I Like: New Jack Swing/R&B

6. I Am The One: Hip Hop

As you can see, there has been no single dominating genre within the past 2 years. You do tend to see some clusters of genres dominating (Tropical House, Trap, Hip Hop, and Pop) but we have no one genre dominating like before. Now, this is just taking into account only the #1 singles, but there is even more variety withing the Top 20 (Example: Million Reasons #4: Country Ballad). This can be explained by the fact that people can now listen to whatever they want whenever they want with streaming services. In other words, they don't rely on radio or TV like it was in he past, to be exposed to music. Now, some genres like pop are definitely on the decline. But in the general, pop will probably never suffer a massive decline thanks to the exposure on streaming services. Finally, this new era of "clusters of trendy genres" will result in interesting blends of music and will probably cause the rise of new genres that have never seen mainstream success to go mainstream like never before.

If you think about it, Gaga actually has good chances of seeing big success again because she is very versatile. She would probably fit right in any genre.

Who cares, no matter the genre as long as you're viral or slay the payola.

This just reminded me of how awful the #1 songs have been. Music is dead. The end is near.

Basically around one hit song per month.

4.5 months.  May would be the fifth month, and it's only half way over.

Either way, gross! The #1's of 2017 have been horrible so far!
