She's a businesswoman who Trump appointed to run public education in the US, in her confirmation interviews she admitted to never stepping foot in a public school, never taking out a student loan, not knowing anybody who has ever taken out a loan and not even having experience handling large budgets - even though those are all now her job areas. She's never had to go through the public school system, take out student loans, knows the struggle that most parents and teachers go through. Completely out of touch with what her position is in charge of. Theres your answer. Plus she's clueless on how broken our education system is. Teachers literally have to pay out of their own pocket to buy pencils for their students. Because Trump appointed her as Secretary of Education when she has absolutely no experience in it. He basically gave it to her because she wanted it and donated a couple million to his campaign. In her confirmation hearings she displayed no aptitude whatsoever concerning the plight of college students forced to take out loans to obtain a higher education (She nor her children had to take loans for her children to afford college). It also sounds like she wants to privatize public education to make it more expensive, but we'll see if she goes that route. There's so many more qualified people than her, including crappy republicans, who could do a better job than she can. Pure favoritism appointment. There are several reasons, but I'll simply give one as it is a disastrous policy she has enabled since being appointed Secretary of Education. She rolled back Obama-era protections for student loan defaulters. In 2015, agencies were barred from charging interest of up to 16 percent of the principal and accrued interest on the loans if the borrower entered the government's loan rehabilitation program within 60 days of default. Almost 7 million people with $162 billion in loans held by guarantee agencies are affected. She has no grasp on the student loan crisis or how to solve it. This crisis will have disastrous consequences for the next few generations of Americans. As many young adults are crippled with debt and are unable to make crucial investments for the future of our country like purchasing a home or starting a family.
