Hip Hop is NOT all about violence and sucking ****. So for her to basically generalize a genre is completely wrong lol.

why not say she distanced herself from pop too?  Because pops all about materialistic things and sex? If were going to generalize.

like????

and country music is about cheating, beer, and young girls with big titties, like :toofunny:

If anything, hip hop and pop are two of the most diverse genres that there are. Her comments were a gross negligence of the movement that hip hop has been since the 80s, a movement she had no part in, did not contribute to, and used as an accessory to appear edgy.

"Over sexualizes women"

Yet she released the wrecking ball video and did that VMA performance with Robin Thick :usrs:

Good. I hate everything about that culture. The toxic masculinity, the fake luxury women, the trophy hoes, the lack of singing and real instruments. Don't even get me started on it's twitter fans, they can be so messy

She is extremely talented. I think she did hip hop/pop well, but I get what she is saying. Hip Hop of today has been turned into an oversexualized mostly male dominated genre. It's not inspirational. It's not artistic. Now if she wanted to use some underground hip hop artist that actually have something to say, then more power to her. And please don't bring race into this. She brought herself Into what has become a cheap hip hop culture, and realized she wasnt about that anymore. She is setting standards for her art.

She is 100% right. Most Hip Hop music is about sex culture, gangs, money, cars, and women. I would distance myself from that as well if I were her

Really? Is it? What's in the top 10 rnb/hip hop charts right now?

#1 Bruno Mars - That's What I Like. (Love song)
Contains lyrics like:

"Jump in the Cadillac, girl, let's put some miles on it
Anything you want, just to put a smile on it
You deserve it baby, you deserve it all
And I'm gonna give it to you"

#2 Kendrick Lamar - Humble. (A song about his humble beginnings and how he should stay humble, to braggadocious boasts about how his peers should be humble)
Contains lyrics like:

"I'm so ****in' sick and tired of the Photoshop
Show me somethin' natural like afro on Richard Pryor
Show me somethin' natural like ass with some stretch marks"

#3 Future - Mask Off. (Rags to Riches tale)
Contains lyrics like:

"From food stamps to a whole 'nother domain
Out the bottom, I'm the livin' proof (Super)
Ain't compromising, half a million on the Coupe"

#4 Kendrick Lamar - D.N.A (Explores racial politics and how an impartial world views Kendrick’s blackness versus how he views his own.)
Contains lyrics like:

"Tell me somethin'
You motha****as can't tell me nothin'
I'd rather die than to listen to you
My DNA not for imitation
Your DNA an abomination"

#5 KYLE (Ft. Lil Yachty) - iSPY (Feel good - everything's going to be alright song)
Contains lyrics like:

"I got a selfie with Oprah, I just ain't never post it
And I'm in my happy place posted, I ain't frown since '06
I ain't cried since '01, my pad like Six Flags and your house is no fun"

#6 Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3 (A story detailing a fight between lovers covering topics like substance abuse, suicide and betrayal)
Contains lyrics like:

"I don't really care if you cry
On the real you should've never lied
Should've saw the way she looked me in my eyes
She said, "Baby, I am not afraid to die"
Push me to the edge
All my friends are dead"

#7 Post Malone (Ft. Quavo) Congratulations (A story celebrating their success)
Contains lyrics like:

#8 Khalid - Location (about young love)
Contains lyrics like:

"At times I wonder why I fool with you
But this is new to me, this is new to you
Initially, I didn't wanna fall for you
Gather my attention it was all for you, so don't

To understand that things go a little bit better when you plan it... oh"

#9 Drake - Passionfruit (about the struggles of a long-distance relationship)
Contains lyrics like:

"Listen

#10 Kodak Black - Tunnel Vision (about serving jail time, the corrupt prison system and other issues)
Contains lyrics like:

"Lil Kodak, they don't like to see you winnin'
They wanna see you in the penitentiary
I need me a lil' baby who gon' listen
Girl, I don't wanna be the one you iggin'
My mama told me: "Boy, make a decision!"
Right now I gotta keep a tunnel vision"

Hip Hop is one of the most diverse genres around covering a range of topics. To dismiss 'most of it' as about 'sex culture, gangs, money, cars, and women' comes across as ignorant to me tbh :/

I mean even considering the 3 rappers most consider at the top of the game right now - Kendrick, Drake and J.Cole. Kendrick is a socially conscious rapper, Drake mostly raps about love and heartbreak, J.Cole is a conscious rapper that raps about life.

These artists are not about money, sex, thug life and fast cars

Thank you for this entire comment. I cant believe the ignorance from some of the comments in here.

hip hop artists fought hard to make the genre get the respect it deserves. It's sad to see some people still having the same ignorant views of the genre as they did decades ago... people don't realize that music wouldn't be where it is now without hip-hop.

I'm not talking quality  Drake it still brought up in conversations about the top rapper - even if Meek destroyed his credibility.

He is the most successful rapper period, so it's worth including him in the discussion of whether rap music is all about gangs and bitches and all that.
