literally a culture vulture

its disgusting  how she threw the hip-hop culture under the bus now that its not beneficial to her anymore

That's really how it comes across. "Damn, Iggy sold 18k, and got ripped to shreds. Maybe a white girl twerking and trying to act all ratchet isn't the tea anymore."

I'd also like to point out that little people who worked on Miley's tour said it was a degrading experience.

But Europe isn't the only continent. Why is Europe the baseline for everything? Because it's the whitest?

Do you try to make this about race as well? :awkney:

No I said it because the different cultures here get along with another pretty well and don't get angry bc of cultural appropriation. So maybe you should allow people to get to know each others cultures better, instead of calling anyone a racist who tries to indulge in a foreign genre, life-style, whatever. Maybe that would be the better way, bc I don't see how anyone profits from closing doors and being limited

There's so many things Europeans might not understand about race. If you never learned about indigenous people or the slave trade and don't know people who descended from that it's easy to not think twice about stereotypes or people making a mockery of a culture.

I get what you're saying and even agree -- but since she went from urban/rap to psychedelic rock to now country again, I see it as "she just wants to try different things each album". And YEARS have passed since Bangerz, so I also think she just matured and sees things differently now. Back then, she probably loved the culture and objectification; now she's apparently clean, sober, and living organic.

And yes, when ARTPOP came out Gaga completely bashed her old "fake" pop music to try and sell us on the new ARTPOP sound. How is it nonsensical to use her as an example? She is a major pop star who experiments in other genres...just like Miley is, whaddayaknow, a major pop star who experiments in other genres...

No she didn't. Gaga actually said that her music has always been ARTPOP.

Mocking a culture is of course not ok, but that is not what cultural appropriation is necessariliy

Opulence

Now she's stereotyping a genre with example lyrics, a genre that she desperately used as a prop to sell herself in 2013, appropriation at its finest.

she was never hip-hop though... she just tried to put dirty rap and really watered down R&B on her album and appropriated black culture for an entire album era and then went on to have beef with a black female rapper (although an untalented one) whom called her out on it.

Gaga seems like she did the same too which is disappointing

She is extremely talented. I think she did hip hop/pop well, but I get what she is saying. Hip Hop of today has been turned into an oversexualized mostly male dominated genre. It's not inspirational. It's not artistic. Now if she wanted to use some underground hip hop artist that actually have something to say, then more power to her. And please don't bring race into this. She brought herself Into what has become a cheap hip hop culture, and realized she wasnt about that anymore. She is setting standards for her art.

Thank you for saying this. People are over reacting imo. I like your idea of doing the underground hip hop thing, like what Gaga did with Pop when she hit the scene, it changed the game! Needless to say, I'm excited to see what direction Miley goes in with her music! :)

I lover her, but that was so dumb. She used black culture as a prop and suddenly it's not cool anymore. Not a cute look, Miley. You can do better.

I don't understand this. :wtfga:

Not everything's about race, people change genres all the time (sounds like someone we stan :hor:). She didn't even say that she hated hip hop (she likes new Kenderick Lamar music), she just doesn't like mindless, sleazy hip hop that paints women in a bad light anymore and that's understandable.
