DeanWinchester 41,390
Is it because she wanted to steer clear from her music persona? Did she mean it that she would not be taken seriously with Lady Gaga? The same stage name now associated with a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination? Do you think she is going to keep using her real name for acting from now on? DeanWinchester 41,390
Just now, AURA said: Probably the same reason she wanted to be called "joanne" but her album still says Lady Gaga in all caps, and she is billed as such. In the movie, she will not be billed as Lady Gaga in the credits whatsoever, while all her previous acting gigs billed (and nominated, awarded) her as such. CautiousLurker 19,312
Cuz Madonna already did the stage name movie credits It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!
giskardsb 12,565
to at least help to attempt to drop the pre-conceptions that come along with "Lady Gaga" as a personna and the expectations that would be laid on the way she plays a musical role. Even though people will know it's the same person at least there will be a little sense that it should be treated different because of the name change. Gaga will have a huge hurdle to overcome pre-conceptions because of her prior fame even though shes basically a new actress. The intent though is to at least in a little way say "this is a new actress" rather than "this is a pop star dabbling in movies."
Bebe 17,093
Maybe, because it's a musical, she didn't want the soundtrack associated as a "Gaga" album. Her albums are personal, while the soundtrack for ASIB is tailored to the story of the character she is playing. Maybe she just felt like she wanted to separate her own music career and her own albums from this movie and soundtrack? That's just a guess... I'm not sure if the soundtrack will come out under Stefani Germanotta/Bradley Cooper like: But I'd assume it is. I could understand Gaga wanting to separate her own work as an artist, working towards her vision, with the work she created for a movie working towards the director's vision. Panchecco 17,627
I think she might have dropped the stage name out of fear of people thinking that Gaga and Stef are the same person by that I mean that probably a lot of people still see Gaga as a character so if she would have stayed "Lady Gaga" for ASIB people might have ended up thinking that she's portraying herself in the movie which means that she's practically not even acting I think she wanted to make sure to be as different as possible from Lady Gaga "the character" and show her commitment to Brad and the GP by "giving up" the persona who made her famous so that she can't rely on her also if you think about AHS Hotel a lot of non-fans thought The Countess was very very similar to Gaga (for the way she dressed and looked but also for how cold and over the top she was) but we know Stef is nowhere near as cold and evil as Elizabeth so, since for most people Gaga = over the top persona, she might have decided to go as Stefani in order to not appear pretentious and "weird" like "the character Lady Gaga"
Alphaz 7,956
So if she wins an Oscar, it will not count as Gaga's EGOT?
