Lol.  Well it was about Madonna and creative control.

The Erotica era could be argued as what happens when Madonna has too much creative control!   Yet it was still a money maker and an era the fans look back on as one of, if not her actual, best!

So there's me tying it all back in! 😉

But I think the erotica era changed how we--as Americans--view women's sexuality. Perhaps it wasn't a huge chart succes, but I think it was a cultural phenomen. Madonna is not really a singer, she's an icon, and I don't believe she can do iconic things by appealing to certain audiences and trying to be commercially successful. She needs to release those songs that are more impactful and experimental (like many of the demos and unreleased work from RH)

Wasn't The Queen and Autotune Baby on the Deluxe edition though? I'll give you that, they could have easily replaced some of the tracks on the standard version... Addicted too - probably my favourite alongside Devil Pray...

On a slightly unrelated note, am I the only one who thinks some of the leaked demos sounded better than the finished songs? Beautiful Scars for instance...

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

I agree, the demos were much more experimental and raw sounding. The fact that they were on the "Super Deluxe Edition" kind of proves my argument that perhaps the label threw those songs in there to keep M happy and make her feel like she was making the decisions.

Super Deluxe and not in every country :hor: the Deluxe ended with the track Rebel Heart.

I view that as being her entire career.  Not only women's sexuality but individual sexuality. Also asking the question of should there be any boundary within Love, what's the difference between loving a partner and loving God?     All of that and more have been her message this entire time and it's fascinating.  She has opened the doors and been a near one woman liberation movement.   It's amazing when you look at it in the age in which she did this.
