Im not talking about new artists though. Im talking about people like Gaga who has a huge fanbase and tons of money.

I don't think Gaga ever had any issues with her label. She has said many times that she is thankful to her label. All her issues stemmed from Troy and maybe some others who worked with him. I don't understand why Gaga didn't get rid of him sooner. And I don't think Gaga even fired him in the end. Didn't he quit?

He quit on her. He didn't show up, didn't support her, started too many side projects. That's how "he left her". Therefore, she fired him.

In the long run, it was the best decision. She needed someone to put her first and take her needs into consideration.

And that's correct, Gaga has always stated that her label has been supportive of her.

I agree. But what I don't understand is why she didn't fire him earlier if he was making her so miserable.

She was in the middle of a tour or depressed and recovering. Things become clear when they become clear. It's hard to fire someone that you loved.

LMAO as if it is as easy as saying "I quit" :laughga:

They have signed contracts, it details what they can and cannot do. And if they bail before they become free agent, they will be sued by the label. Plus, unless an artist stated that they don't before they sign anything, they will keep your music rights too. This means, they can keep re-releasings your past albums for their own gain, while the artist themselves cannot do that with their new label.

And even if the label are bankrupt, the artists who signed with them still cannot move yo another label until all law works done, and the label stated that they released their artist, and these can take years  (prime example, JoJo and her past label)

These things are more complicated than you think. Otherwise, wouldn't you think everyone would hop on new labels every new moon already?! :giggle:

Mandy Moore did it and she didnt went through the things Britney and other artist went lol, after her 2 albums she wanted to be taken seriously so she did Coverage, which made her label to drop her lol  (they released 2 best of albums to end her contract and drop her ass)  after that she focused on doing folk rock music and acting, and she didnt had that much of money lol, but she does have talent

Gaga did have issues...especially during the ARTPOP era with them having her multiple times "finalizing" ARTPOP, selecting the singles throughout her career, the leak of Aura was an act of rebellion, because apparently they didn't want it as the first single.

I also assume promo and funding started to diminish during the ARTPOP era...i mean she went from having a castle to an inflatable cloud for a tour set... :awkney:

Overall, Gaga has had a mixed relationship with Interscope, but once her contractual obligations are met, I wonder if she'll leave and start her own label or renew and do both

She has always had nothing but good things to say about her label though

Ummm...you can look up receipts of her telling fans she's had her "ups and downs" with the label...again Aura is a perfect example

She's still a relatively new though in the scheme of things and her career had been built with her label and (initial) management team. You can jepordise a lot thinking you can easily move on and continue that success elsewhere, especially when you don't know who to trust. I think it took her a long time to realise she could no longer trust Troy which is why she didn't fire him sooner when he was neglecting her. She still didn't hire a stranger though she just promoted people up who were previously working with her. Plus in the industry she is in I'm sure many feel it's better the devil you know.

Recording contracts favor the label. Buying your way out isn't cheap and there pro's and con's to being in a label. When you go out on your own you do have total freedom, but you also become responsible for booking shows, paying for promotion, etc. So it's very much a double edged sword. Buying out of a contract isn't so easy and simply quitting will put you in legal limbo.

Well that's how labels work. It's not like "Hey do whatever the hell you want". They invest their money in an artist and That's why they have a say in the chosen singles, final album cuts etc. Gaga really has a lot of freedom at interscope which most artists will never get. But yeah sometimes opinions differ and that's what happened with ARTPOP. Doesnt mean she has a bad or mixed relationship with her label. I even think she'll renew her contract there.

Watch the show empire. Not that it's 100% reality but it'll give you a Good look at the power of labels.

I would think it's not as easy as just buying their way out. Look at the Kesha situation, she fought her ass off to get out of hers for almost two and a half years. :ohno:

THIS!

OT: It's easier said than done!
