Wolf 1,328
Taylor writes superficial lyrics with surface level meanings, mostly about love. Gaga writes songs with multiple and layered meanings

PopBitch 1,218
Two different songwriters. I prefer Gaga. I don't listen to much of Taylor's music, but I have to say Back to December is a beautiful song, a song about regret.

Wet Fire 7,286
Taylor does really have some great lyrics, but not really that diverse . I mean Gaga is great at any kind of songwriting. Compare Poker Face, Born This Way, Million Reasons, Cake Like Lady Gaga, Princess Die, Dope, The Edge of Glory, Judas, Joanne...
Panchecco 17,529
90% of Taylor's song are about ex boyfriends/breakups
Prada 1,200
Taylor Swift has good lyrics.but its like she needs to discover more of herself. She's still stuck in her first album tbh. On the other hand Gaga is really talented.Especially TFM/Born This Way albums are unique in lyrical way.She has darkness/fun/life everything.

Not The Real Gaga 7,498
21 hours ago, M Monstre said: Well, first of all, having "Gaga vs. anybody" on a forum dedicated to Lady Gaga is never really a good idea—just because we all know how it's going to turn out. To answer the question though, I find Taylor completely overrated when it comes to her vocals and songwriting. I mean, yeah, she makes catchy pop songs, not going to lie, I do like some of them (her older and newer stuff), but her a majority of her lyrics are superficial. Gaga's lyrics can be superficial (i.e. Just Dance), but some can be incredibly complex with a ton of metaphors (i.e. Come to Mama). And, I mean, I'm all for artists expressing themselves whichever way they want, but when the majority of your songs are about breakups, it really starts to not become an artistic thing anymore. It's almost mechanical, almost machinery, like, you have to write about your breakups. I sort of find it annoying. She didn't write Come to Mama by herself
perfillusion 61
Both are great but to me (I only heard Red & 1989) Taylor is kinda one dimensional with her writing which is talking about love & breakups. Gaga's lyrics are so versatile even though ARTPOP was a huge step down lyrically, Joanne is arguably her best album lyrically. Like damn, Gaga was writing poetry for Joanne. Not The Real Gaga 7,498
"Better" is relative in this case. Actually, you can't compare them with each other. Taylor's lyrics are relatively simple, but they better stuck in your head. Her lyrics are easier to sing-a-long with. I've usually a problem with remembering lyrics, even I've listened over a thousand times to a song. I've that problem with a lot of Gaga songs too. Gaga's writings are mostly more complex and deeper. Maybe you can call it more artistic. They have a different style, different level. But I would go for Gaga honestly, to praise her creativity and song-writing skills. Taylor does a fine job too, though.
Fiona Apple 13,006
16 minutes ago, Wolf said: care to explain how/why? If you exclude specific songs like "Judas" ,the only reason that Gaga's songs can have many meanings is because the lyrics are general af,they don't have any detail to make clear what the point of the song is and this is why they can be understood in many different ways. It's a way of writing pop music and make it relatable to everyone, which is not a bad thing but it's definitely not "layered, deep and multiple" meanings. What makes Gaga's songwriting somewhat interesting is the metaphores that she uses that can be really creative at times, the humor that she puts into her music and that her lyrics are memorable and make the songs usually catchier. Taylor on the other hand has the ability to explain exactly her emotional state and explain a situation so well that she makes you feel like you live it when you listen to the song. And this is a true talent. Her metaphores are AMAZING as well, her lyrics are that specific that they actually make you understand that they are written by her and they are about her life which is a beautiful thing.Usually her music is really detailed and descriptive and it really sounds like poetry. You can take a Taylor Swift song (At least MANY of them) and read it without music and it will still be beautiful and make sense. If you take almost every Gaga song and read the lyrics ,they really don't say anything imporant or interesting most of the times. Gaga has the talent of writing easily marketable lyrics but Taylor serves quality lyric-wise.
