Gaga vs Taylor Swift: Who's a better lyricist?

As a famous prophet once told me, "we don't have to keep on one-and up another"

theyre both skilled songwriters imo. Gaga can sing about drug abuse and depression because she's experienced that. Taylor has not (as far as I know), so you can't expect her to write songs about that. I am keen to see what her next album will focus on, because she is definitely aware people accuse her of focusing too much on relationships.

I feel like Taylor is consistently good, whereas Gaga is sometimes amazing but also sometimes dreadful. I'm looking at you Swine, Venus bridge, GUY, J&D, Americano, etc.

To add my two cents.. I don't think either is a particularly good lyricist. Yes, they write cute lyrics, throw in a metaphor or two, but I often feel they use very basic rhymes and structures. I'd say that Gaga is a bit more creative with her texts, although I can't really judge since I hardly ever listen to Taylor.

Anyway, if I want amazing lyrics, I go to my girl Amy.

She has 4 other albums all with better lyrics than 1989 tho (imo) :oprah:. Why only include one? Whatever I didnt expect anything else after going into this thread and some replies are hilarious :poot:

I listened and bought all four of her other albums. When they came out I was in high school and I thought the lyrics were relatable, but now when I go back... Everything sounds childish.

I'm sure the same will happen when I go back and listen to 1989 :classy:

So yeah, I'm very aware of Taylor's discography.

Currently listening to Joanne

I felt an urge to comment on this thread, my first ever! Gaga has good songs but a lot of them lack lyrical substance and are really average, while also needing a little support from other lyricists. Taylor is an incredibly skilled songwriter and is consistently good, of course she has one or two songs that are just for fun like Shake It Off, but Gaga could never come up with something so greatly done like All Too Well, Begin Again or Enchanted on her own, in terms of lyrics.

Taylor it depends on the song tbh.. some songs are written by a 12 years old Taylor and some by the adult Taylor.. for example Shake It Off and Blank Space..

I wanna hear TS writing something else than her past adventure in love and relationship to compare fairly.

Gaga been writing about many topics thus far. Not just love and sex.

Taylor for me plays it too safe that's why people say she's consistently good, Gaga takes risks, she doesn't have to rhyme, but somehow it fits. Gaga is an unconventional song writer. My favorites being you & I (esp. this part "we've got a whole lot of money but we still pay rent, cause you cant buy a house in heaven" ), gypsy's 'the way that you love and treat your mother' part :diane:, speechless(this 'some men may follow me, but you chose death and company' :diane:), Grigio Girls' 'sisters never pack up, we always run back, love. seven years ago, I said youll make it so'(gets me everytime), and many more. Everything gaga writes is so genuine and you can really feel what she's feeling. I feel like taylor tries really hard though to make her songs relatable and there's something ungenuine about that :oprah:

We could be caught, we're both convicted criminals of thought:music:

i loove the way Gaga portrays her feelings in Sexxx Dreams, being criminals for thinking of someone else while with someone:pray:

speaking of which does taylor (kinney) have anything to say about this :reductive:

Gaga without pause, Taylor's songs are whiny, immature and victimizing. One of the things that I hate most about Taylor Swift is her song writing.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
