NotGeigh 109
Taylor is good, but I feel like Gaga wins by default just because she writes about a wide variety of things even if not, Gaga can have literal and figurative lyrics and her tongue and cheek/wink type deliveries are iconic
bliaz 897
I hate Snakelor, but I think she is a better lyricist than Gaga, more digestible for the GP English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistakes

juju 18,907
Completely unbiased here, but Taylor's lyrics aren't anything special. They sound like they were lifted from a 14 year old girl's journal ❤ x ❤
RonnieGagz 4,300
Gaga is more creative at choosing the theme of a song, but when constructing it she sometimes fail and do some cringey lyrics (like "I wish I had the faith but I don't know" in "Sinner's Prayer") Taylor don't have theme diversity, but her way of putting the lyrics together is better than Gaga's. (And let's not forget how much Grammys she has). I, as a Gaga fan, prefer her writing. But I'm not blind to say that her writing skills are so much better than Taylor's. They are so different to compare. ♡Gaga♡TØP♡Nightwish♡Lana♡Lorde♡Grimes♡
StrawberryBlond 14,774
Honestly, I don't understand where this praise for Taylor's songwriting comes from. Even as an adult, her writing remains painfully juvenile. Taylor and I are the same age (we were actually born just days apart) and I have always found her songwriting childish. I never understood how adult critics, especially middle-aged male critics, could possibly praise it. If a girl her own age, the demographic she's aiming for, thinks it's childish, this should be torture to a guy's ears by rights. She's got some decent songs here and there but the only songs where I've truly loved her actual songwriting are Tim McGraw, Our Song, Blank Space, Out of the Woods and Wildest Dreams. Everything else is ok at best. Basic rhymes are what she's all about. Gaga's lyrics aren't even comparable.
Fernster7 7,922
All Too Well alone is better than half of Gaga's discography. Taylor is one of my faves and even though I love Gaga songs way more she's a better lyricist, she makes her points in a nice way and her songs are like a story, sometimes I feel Gaga should revisit her lyrics from time to time because some of her songs could have been perfect but they have some stupif lyrics. Monsters never die.
hausofcy 20,325
gaga can be a genius in writing. Like the first verse of poker face is pure gold. However she can be messy sometimes. But yeah definately gaga
DaddyFranco 604
Lana del Rey is on top tbh
tea spiller 55
TAYLOR. Hey, you call me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest. I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here 'Cause I remember it all, all, all too well.
bitchimtrying 2,495
It would be incredible to see them work together, even if it was only on the lyrics for someone elses song. They are both such talented writers even if Gaga is better at singing.

Cherry lips, crystal skies I could show you incredible things Stolen kisses, pretty lies You're the King, baby, I'm your Queen Find out what you want Be that girl for a month Wait, the worst is yet to come, oh no Screaming, crying, perfect storms I can make all the tables turn Rose garden filled with thorns Keep you second guessing like "Oh my God, who is she?" I get drunk on jealousy But you'll come back each time you leave'Cause, darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream sorry guys.. Tay is the better lyricist... Honey, these aren't phenomenal lyrics I've written some poems on my computer/phone just for fun and they are literally on the same level with these. Except she's very rich and famous and I'm no-one. That's basically the only difference.
Eggs 2,690
Gaga's music speaks to me on a level that Taylor's never could, but I'd be lying if I said I thought Gaga was the better lyricist. Gaga has great ideas and a few, scattered, inspired moments, but the way she actually crafts and structures her words is often... clunky. Like I said, I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, and I'm not overly familiar with her discography, but having recently given 1989 a try, I did find myself struck by her turn of phrase on numerous occasions, often several times per song. Gaga's very much a dab hand at camp though. Bluffin with my muffin is iconique, now and forever. But she stumbles when she tries to be a bit sophisticated Spoiler e.g. Bloody Mary Spoiler don't @ me Spoiler still a great song
MonsterPaws 2,710
Gaga has more variety (idk if that's a good word). Taylor Swift hands-down when it comes to love and relationships. Swift is a very very very very very talented songwriter. I swear her songs are like 3-minute novels they're beautiful. But Gaga utilizes more emotion in the music than straightforward story-telling. In the sense that you can't really get the whole picture from Gaga's lyrics alone, you need the melody, the instrumental, the synths, the choreo, the videos etc. They are both quite different songwriters if you ask me.
