Questions like this -_-  why do you even bother comparing a lyricist to a "songwriter"

Taylor's lyrics... I don't even know how to explain it, but her lyrics always feel so right at their place. It's like Taylor is doing mathematical equasions when she writes lyrics for her songs and she gets the right answers every time.

While Gaga's lyrics are unique, full of metaphors and in general more poetic than most of her peers'.

As a Gaga fan, I like her songwriting more, but Taylor is perfect at this craft as well.

REALITY

Well, first of all, having "Gaga vs. anybody" on a forum dedicated to Lady Gaga is never really a good idea—just because we all know how it's going to turn out.

To answer the question though, I find Taylor completely overrated when it comes to her vocals and songwriting. I mean, yeah, she makes catchy pop songs, not going to lie, I do like some of them (her older and newer stuff), but her a majority of her lyrics are superficial.

Gaga's lyrics can be superficial (i.e. Just Dance), but some can be incredibly complex with a ton of metaphors (i.e. Come to Mama).

And, I mean, I'm all for artists expressing themselves whichever way they want, but when the majority of your songs are about breakups, it really starts to not become an artistic thing anymore. It's almost mechanical, almost machinery, like, you have to write about your breakups. I sort of find it annoying.

Taylor Swift has some good lyrics, but the way Gaga writes is much more interesting to me, and I find her messages to carry more weight in general. Gaga doesn't always write about things that directly relate to her own life experiences, and I very much enjoy that. That said, her songs that are more autobiographical are also well-written.

Thanks for being respectful :laughga: I agree!

Gaga's lyrics are more stellar and creative.

Taylor is great at writing, but her bridges are like, the same lines repeated. (Smurk at The Cure)

objectively speaking..

Taylor is the better lyricist cause she's consistnt.. and her writing is like story-telling.. narrative style and she's very good at it... she's like a grandma storytelling to her grandchildren before sleep.. and well, as a listener you can visualize everything that she's trying to say.. thus making her a very good story teller.

ex.

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes and the flashback starts
I'm standing there on a balcony in summer air
See the lights; see the party, the ball gowns
See you make your way through the crowd
And say hello, little did I know

Gaga on the other hand is very good in metaphor.. her lyrics are always deep and that sometimes you wonder what does she even mean.. sometimes it turned out LOUSY tho.. see Venus verses :stalkga: but she's really good on referencing things or person.. and putting it to her song that will create new meaning... example Loving you is Cherry Pie.. god she hates cherry pie so with that, a normal person might see it as a romantic love but it's the other thing..

Gaga's best:

We are not just art for Michelangelo
To carve. He can't rewrite the agro of my furied heart.
I'll wait on mountain tops in Paris cold
J'veux pas mourir toute seule [French for: "I don't want to die alone"]

and

Run, run, her kiss is a vampire grin / The moon lights away while she's howlin' at him / She looks good, but her boyfriend says she's a tramp / She's a tramp, she's a vamp, but she still does her dance / She's a tramp, she's a vamp, but she still kills her dance

ARTPOP and Mary Jane Holland win this lyrically easily imho Taylor has some cute songwriting like This Love for example is easily her best song simply because of the songwriting

and lemme add this to Taylor..

Cherry lips, crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You're the King, baby, I'm your Queen
Find out what you want
Be that girl for a month
Wait, the worst is yet to come, oh no

Screaming, crying, perfect storms
I can make all the tables turn
Rose garden filled with thorns
Keep you second guessing like
"Oh my God, who is she?"
I get drunk on jealousy
But you'll come back each time you leave
'Cause, darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream

sorry guys.. Tay is the better lyricist...

"Taylor is trash because she only writes about her relationships"

Songwriters draw inspiration from their life, and I know Taylor has quite a few non-romantic songs also.

Also can we really talk? The woman we stan has had a song about Luc Carl on every album?? Not to mention a whole album about him?? Gaga has always written about her relationships, she just does it through a more metaphorical way of writing than Taylor Swift does.

Speechless about her dad??? The Edge of Glory about her grandfather?? Perfect Illusion about social media?? Show me your teeth, Gagz  :trollga:

Gaga def has more range in lyrics, whereas Taylor carries similar themes to the point where 30% of her songs are about taking polaroids and moving furniture to dance. She writes about niche scenes, while Gaga has the scale to go basic pop anthem to pretentious fake german. Taylor is slowly developing range in writing, whereas Gaga's writing fits comfortably within genres (take Sinner's Prayer, for example, which is an amazingly written country-pop piece) Also Gaga's referencing game to pop culture, art, etc. is BEYOND (exhibit a. ARTPOP) Even songs like Perfect Illusion referenced to the middle zone theory.

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

Bette Davis

I dislike Taylor and love to drag her every chance I get, but if I'm being unbiased I would say she's on par with Gaga when it comes to lyrics. They both have examples of cringy, simple, stupid lyrics and they also both have many songs with beautiful, deep, poetic, vivid lyrics.

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
