Police in the UK are warning parents about a sick ‘suicide challenge’ known as Blue Whale after the terrifying online craze was linked to the deaths of hundreds of teenagers in Russia.

There are fears that vulnerable youngsters are being swayed to take their own lives through sick social media accounts, with one teenager pulled from the edge of a block of flats as he prepared to jump to “win” the twisted game.

What is the Blue Whale online suicide game?

The Blue Whale ‘suicide game’ is believed to be an online social media group which is encouraging people to kill themselves. It’s thought a ‘group administrator’ assigns ‘daily tasks’ to members, which they have to complete for 50 days. They include self-harming, watching horror movies and waking up at unusual hours, but these gradually get more extreme. But on the 50th day, the controlling manipulators behind the game reportedly instruct the youngsters to commit suicide.

Police are said to be probing at least 130 suicides across Russia which they fear are linked to the online craze. Investigative newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported: “We have counted 130 suicides of children that took place between November 2015 to April 2016. Almost all these children were members of the same internet groups and lived in good, happy families.”

im sorry but how in the hell do you see people telling you to harm yourself on social media and decide that it's a smart thing to do?  i can see depressed teens/those contemplating suicide but it sounds like this is just idiots doing **** for the sake of internet fame

That's ****ing tragic wow. I'm teaching my kids about sex, common sense, and avoiding **** like this at age 8. Why? Because I won't let the internet pervertedly teach them how to use it first,?at basically around the same age. 

On a similar note: Not to blame anyon, but we truly need to equip kids with their own common sense on how to live, and don't sugar coat it, bc it won't help them. Parents controlling their kids, and the media they consume via outrage, is so tacky.

This sounds like a horror movie is some dystopian cyberpunk thing, only that it's real.

The real question is, how did this get so far? Like a few teens dying like that would be coincidence, but this should've gotten more suspicious as the bodies piled up.

That's only correct with a big IF. Because people like to forget that toddlers, children and very young teenagers have easy access to everything on the internet. And those are groups that are extremely impressionable and very easily intimidated and manipulated by authority figures.

I guess most of the kids who "played" the game were brainwashed during 50 days of the challenge
