Um what are you talking about actually? All of the Gaga videos were directed in 1080i, do you think they recorded them with a ****ty mobile or what? Youtube didn't have the option to upload in 1080i but they still exist.

No Gaga video was filmed with a industry grade HD camera until Alejandro. Before then they weren't filming on mobile phones like you suggest. They were filming their videos on industry standard broadcast quality cameras, but they were only capable of filming standard definition, very common in the industry. Such is the reason episodes of shows like Doctor Who between 2005-2009 aren't released in high definition, because they weren't filmed in HD. Please get your facts right before you start acting like you know what you're on about when you clearly don't.

I would quote your convo with IDB

I swear we get this thread every other week :fail:

Basically, Telephone was the first video to be shot in High Definition - (1080p)

Anything before it was shot on cheap tape in Standard Definition and can never be true HD, only upscaled.

So while the ultimate ultimate master for the videos aren't available to the public, the compressed Youtube ones are likely the best true quality we are likely to get for the foreseeable future.

Just letting everyone know. Of course all the music videos were shot in HD. They just never released in HD because YouTube and VEVO didn't have widescreen features back then. I know this because I have seen several snippets of the HD videos on TV shows (and they are in widescreen) and when I view them on my big television, they have perfect quality. They do exist. I mean even my crappy Sony that I got in the Poker Face era shoots in HD. You are saying that they used something less than a hand held camera to shoot all those music videos? XD

You've never answered, and Blake and I are true. How would you explain that the The Fame era videos are in HD in advertisements and not just on TV even there are some videos on Youtube what you can find.

Look it up :tea:

Oh and totally forgot the the interlude what was filmed in 2009 oh wait, its 1080p? How is that possible?

Please get your facts right before you start acting like you know what you're on about when you clearly don't.

I'm not film expert, but I know enough to say that you also need to get some of your facts straight. You are correct in saying that, before HDTV was common, industry standard broadcast TV cameras filmed only in standard definition. These cameras typically recorded to video tape in the form of videocassettes. The Wikipedia article for Doctor Who does mention that they recorded with the DigiBeta cassette format prior to 2009.

However, many other TV shows and most of Gaga's Fame and Fame Monster era videos were shot using film cameras and not broadcast TV cameras. 16mm or 35mm film is most common. I don't know where you got the info that Alejandro was filmed using "industry grade HD" cameras, but even that was shot with film cameras based on this following photo. It's not that clear but you can see the case holding the reel of film at the back of the camera on the left edge of the picture:

If you watch the behind the scenes videos on Gaga's VEVO channel for at least Telephone, Bad Romance, and Poker Face you'll see them shooting with film cameras. 16mm and 35mm film is commonly transferred to high definition video, they do it all the time as there are many recent TV shows that have been broadcast in HD but shot with film. Judging from the Alejandro and Telephone videos, they have no problem transferring film to 1080p HD.

So my point is that it is possible for them to release HD versions of Bad Romance and any other older Gaga video shot in film. However, they probably won't do it any time soon since it will cost them a lot of money to transfer the videos.

Well I gotta say I can't confirm everything because we don't actually know what specific type of camera they filmed with. I think you're right to an extent actually, but I'm not 100% sure.

There's no need to be rude about it. That's an interlude for a major tour, of course it's going to be filmed in HD, it'll be made by different production crew at different times than her music videos too.

It wasnt a major tour it was a small club tour going around the world. + music videos are more important.

Im sure we have the HD version we just dont have it now..

^^ the fame ball interlude were show by Jamal Hill and Bruce Cole who at the time operated cameras of up to HD 1080. you can see the samples on there vimeo channels. Can we just end this whole argument. Bad Romance was most likely filed in HD just not uploaded in HD. We have a video that has at least 470 million views, you SHALL watch it in 480p and you SHALL deal. :tea:

It doesn't matter what kind of camera they used, the film is the same regardless of the camera. It's not like digital where different cameras have different maximum resolutions. However, if you want to nitpick about the cameras they used, it's most likely the Arriflex 435. See comparison pics in the spoiler.

Arri435-filmcamera.jpg

The 435 is a 35mm film camera. 35mm film is commonly transferred to upwards of 2K or even 4K resolution, so getting 1080p out of it is no problem. That means it is possible for them to release a version of 4K resolution version of Bad Romance, which would be 4x the pixels of a 1080p video :omg: But of course this is never going to happen, we will be lucky to even get 720p.
