Jean-Luc Mélenchon is gaining ground in opinion polls for the French presidential election. He started his own party after the Socialist party became too centrist, and he's backed by the Communist Party. He wants to introduce a 90% income tax for wages above 400k euros, to lower the working week from 35 hours to 32 hours and to lower the pension age to 60. He wants to pull France out of NATO and the World Bank and if he doesn't get the treaty changes he wants from the EU, he would leave it. On the other hand he wants France to join Castro's and Chavez's Bolivarian Alliance. If he were to face Le Pen (far right, nationalist, euroskeptic) or Fillon (comservative right, corrupt) he would likely win. Hamon (Socialist Party, basic income, centre-left to far-left) doesn't stand a chance anymore. Macron (progressive centrist, former minister of Economy under socialist government) is still favourite to win, and would win against all other candidates if he made it to the second round. Thoughts? Guest Posted April 14, 2017 Share Posted April 14, 2017 As a french citizen, I'd rather die than have Jean Luc Méléchon elected president, the country is already struggling, with a high rate of unemployement lemme tell you it'll get worse with that guy, I'd have to leave the damn country or stay unemployed, get paid while not doing **** which is what millions of french people are doing while I'm typing this. If Macron wins it would be as though Hollande is president for 10 years. The best route would be either Le Pen or Fillon, or Nicolas Dupont Aignan. He can't do that much in five years anyways. What worries me is his stance on international politics.. being Chavez-friendly, moderately euroskeptic, against NATO, against Russian sanctions.. with Macron you know those things are all okay. This was probably the worst president of our 5th constitution ---- Also, a quite interesting idea of Mélanchon is to pick deputees among the population so the nation would be represented by people who know how the average French people are living and not by politics who are completely disconnected from the reality of 75% of the population.
