In my opinion, that is one of her worst videos.

The "everything but the kitchen sink" and "more is more" approach to music videos worked for Telephone because it had a professional director at the helm to edit ideas. The social criticism and symbolism in Telephone, it's kitsch, smart, and irreverent. Then look at the heavy handed symbolism in G.U.Y. She literally rose from the ashes, she was literally baptized, and she literally took down "the man." G.U.Y was a desperate attempt to recreate the magic of Telephone.

Well, i never said G.U.Y. had a better message or anything. Your first comment is about Gaga's videos not being visually pleasing anymore, while G.U.Y. SERVES visuals, then you backtracked and talked about directors, social criticism and symbolism. :madge:

It was a comment about consumerism. Shortly after it was released Gaga tweeted someone's brilliant analysis of the video, but I'm not having any luck finding it. Here is the break down from The Atlantic.

It's a satirical/ironic video pretty much.

Telephone is her "fear of suffocation" monster. I always took it as her looking at how the music industry's changed from being about expression and art to being about profit. The soul is gone. Music is now a product to sell. She decided that she's not playing this game so the song and video for Telephone are two different ways she's telling the business that she's not a tool to be used so they can pad their pockets, she's not there to make them money, and they can't order her to do things she doesn't want to do like selling products or shamelessly advertising in her videos (which is why there's so much shameless advertising in the video ).

Basically, it's a middle finger to the business :fthis:

Gaga is such a genius! Now I get why there's so much violence in the video.

You misunderstand my original post. My post wasn't about her videos not being visually pleasing anymore. My comment was about the decline in the overall quality of the visuals (album art, music videos, fashion, live performances) which accompany her music.

Do we have to make a thread every time Dylan reacts to Gaga? :neyde:

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. In my opinion she just matured and her style and visuals matured together with her.

Like.. hello visuals

She literally looks like a goddess every time, and she's going for much more sophisticated looks. You can't pull the same **** out over and over again, it gets tired. Imo the ARTPOP era had the best visuals, then comes joanne. I may just be tired of crazyga looks as well since i grew up too.

I'm talking about how she applies the Visual arts (fashion, film making, design, photography, etc) to her music. I'm not talking about her "delivering visuals" in the sense that occasionally she looks stunning on the red carpet.

The overall quality of her visuals has decreased, the clumsy Bowie drag and Basic Maxwell designs are no exceptions. The concepts and executions of looks, album covers, and music videos isn't the same caliber it once was.
