Does Gaga Even Like Perfect Illusion?

REALITY

I'm sure she likes Perfect Illusion, otherwise it wouldn't have made the cut on the album. I personally think it's one of the best songs on Joanne, and her discography in general, but I don't think she wanted it as the lead single.

She most likely wanted A-YO, as she has said that it was her favorite song, and she promoted it much more she ever promoted PI. She also stated in a radio interview that she didn't pick the lead single, and instead, Interscope did, but then quickly backtracked and said that it was a "collaborative effort".

So, while I do think she likes the song, I don't think she foresaw it becoming the lead single.

Honestly I don't think Gaga wrote that song. So maybe she doesn't have a connection with it, and to be honest! That song didn't take off for a reason.

I'm sure she likes Perfect Illusion, it's a great song.

The issue was that it was struggling to get spins and people weren't really feeling it, which is understandable as it isn't going to be to everyone's taste. It made sense to move on.

I love it personally, but I feel like she didnt have much of a connection with it. Parker created the concept and she just ran with it as a collaborative project, and not something from her heart.

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

I'll never understand why it was chosen as the lead. It was an awful choice. I'm glad gaga sees that too

Gaga BARELY promoted Perfect Illusion at all.

and barely promoted john wayne too.

here let's just agree based on that, that she hates ALL of her songs, right? considering a single hasn't been released in 6th months, she just hates the album :laughga:

if she hated perfect illusion, she wouldn't put this much emotion into it:

then again she is a performer :poot:

Gaga loves and believes in every song that makes it onto an album.

If anything, she maybe didn't want to promote it because it hit too close to home after her breakup. How do you feel into performing a song frequently which reminds you of a recent breakup, let alone having to explain and talk about the song over and over on radio.

And she did promote the song. Not on TV, but she did do a lot of radio interviews and a few performances.

I think it's also worth noting that she doesn't do a tonne of promotion for any of her songs these days. She just doesn't seem into being a 'promoter' these days. More of a writer, recorder, and performer. I think she's looking forward to the tour more than TV appearances.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I don't think she necessarily had a connection with it since it was mostly written by Kevin I think.

John Wayne wasn't even announced as a single, it was like a promo single with a video and VS performance.

People saying it was a bad lead single :awkney:

It was so different and fresh then what was on the radio at the time I thought it smashed. It wasn't some generic pop/electronic instrumental with some subpar vocals (Closer I'm coming at you). It was a fun song.

I think she likes the song but didn't want it as the lead single. Her label controls her way too much. Like she's not going to be as big as she was in the beginning of her career. Musically she likes to branch out and not do what others are doing and they need to understand and embrace that.

How many more albums are left in her contract? I would be interested to see an era without her label's rules and see what she creates and releases with total freedom :giggle:

She only had a 5 album contract. So after Joanne she's free to sign with whoever or resign a new one.

Well. We DO know that she loves her Million Reasons.

Nothing else seems to matter this era.
