Hecturr 1,921
& that time at the airport when a fan asked for a picture and she was like "Nat taday beb" On a serious note, I think in general she's pretty memorable for this generation? Her hit singles will still be remembered in 30 years I'm pretty sure Do we have a video of this? Please say we do
Quark 7,085
Exactly, the song itself sold an OK amount (definitely not a big hit), But the song was enough to sale the album. And today this song is recognized as being arguably the biggest influence for the rise of Grunge music. Rihanna on the other hand sold a huge amounts of singles with songs like umbrella, but did she influence or revolutionize anything? Italy (FIMI)[108] Digital single Gold 15,000* United States (RIAA)[109] Physical single Platinum 1,000,000^ United States (RIAA)[109] Digital single Gold 1,724,000[110] United Kingdom (BPI)[111] Gold 400,000^ Great single sales for the 90s but let's not forget that this song propelled their album, Nevermind, to the top of the charts as well===commercial success plus GP recognition. therefore you are wrong, Smells Like Teen Spirit was a monstrous hit whose sales were reflected in Nirvana's album sales moreso than their single sales. BTW this is my favorite Rihanna song, so I am not hating. yes The song was abviously a big hit, but did the song make any impact? and it did have impact, the song was everywhere and still remember till this day it even recieved an MTV award for Monster Single of the Year and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella_(song)#Legacy

And today this song is recognized as being arguably the biggest influence for the rise of Grunge music. Rihanna on the other hand sold a huge amounts of singles with songs like umbrella, but did she influence or revolutionize anything? Yes absolutely. She has been on the forefront of the EDM wave into pop music while keeping her reggae and rnb roots alive as well. And I asked you whether you could name something iconic that wasn't a hit-Smells Like Teen Spirit was a hit which had great sales and acclaim represented in its album sales. Rihanna's hits are represented in her single sales more than her album sales, but her album sales are great either way. What's also important to note is that Nirvana was just a wave who didn't resonate continually with the public like Rihanna has been doing. The truth is that Rihanna's name can be more recognized worldwide than Nirvana if you compare the two artists' fame at the same time period.
Checkers 3,515
I'm a Riri stan, but honestly aside from her music and the Chris Brown incident, I don't think she's really done anything memorable.

Quark 7,085
I am just talking about the song. Plus, is obvious that Rihanna will be most remembered now since she is a current artist. But a huge amount of people still remember Nirvana after 25+ years. Plus they will be inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame this year. But I guess we will never agree with one another so lets just leave it at that. Also Gaga was more of an influence of the rise of EDM than Rihanna, since Gaga was one of the few artists that actual brought big attention to this type of music in 09. Yes absolutely. Disturbia came out in 08 while not true true EDM it's still very much part of that dancepop/electropop vibe of Just Dance and Poker Face. And you can't judge whether Rihanna will be remembered 25 years from now, but I think it's extremely likely given the nature of her constant hit songs and resonance with the GP. She is and will be iconic, and the stats support that. Your opinion may not.
