misanthrope 15
I feel like it's rushed cause the lyrics and the beats. Diamonds is basically We Found Love's lyrics. And all of her beats from this album sound like they could have been on Loud or Talk that Talk imo. What's the theme of Unaplogetic? Have you read the lyrics? Its her most personal album since Rated R. And to be honest its a lot more natural. Shes come into her own as a pop star, while Rated R was personal it still felt forced. She was trying to put forth an image. Unapologetic flows naturally. You look at an album like Loud or Talk That Talk and all they are, are a collection of good pop songs thrown together to make an album tailor made for radio. They have good individual tracks but it doesn't make for a cohesive album. Those to me were rushed and almost barren of any sort of personal touch from the artist. With Unapologetic, if you read the lyrics they're all representative of where shes at in her life right now. Confused, emotionally unavailable, and yearning for/fetishizing her taboo relationship with Chris Brown. NOW im not saying this album is substantial. But its a lot more thoughtful than her last 2 efforts which is why I appreciate it. I know not everyone cares whether or not she makes a cohesive album. I'm just saying thats why its technically better to me.

I can't criticize anyone for not being a fan, when to be honest my interest in her is kind of superficial. I like her style, I like her style of pop music, I just think its fun and when its thoughtful its even better. But I can't criticize you for disliking her. I just think Unapologetic is often miscategorized as rushed and unthoughtful when its not lol

So in your eyes, she's more of an entertainer than musician, but it's even better when she is a little more artistic with her music. That's understandable

That's understandable I think shes a pop star that doesn't try to intellectualize anything she does. She's like the black Britney Spears in my opinion. And I love Britney Spears. But with Rihanna theres more of her in her music, despite not being credited as a writer or producer.
