Morphine Prince 110,022 Posted March 27, 2017 Share Posted March 27, 2017 WASHINGTON ― In the wake of the Republican failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act on Friday, leading figures in the progressive wing of the Democratic Party are rallying behind a single-payer health insurance and a raft of other bold reforms. These lawmakers and grassroots leaders have long believed that the problems plaguing the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, are rooted in the original health care law’s attempt to accommodate, rather than gradually replace, the private, for-profit health insurance system. Now that efforts to eliminate the law wholesale are effectively dead, they are again arguing that the best way to improve the country’s health care system is to confront the power of corporate health care provider more directly. “We have got to have the guts to take on the insurance companies and the drug companies and move forward toward a ‘Medicare for all,’ single-payer program,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” on Friday night. “And I’ll be introducing legislation shortly to do that.” Sanders added on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that he would “absolutely” seek President Donald Trump’s cooperation on expanding Medicare and lowering prescription drug prices. Even before the Republicans withdrew their Obamacare repeal bill, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee and a close Sanders ally, previewed this message at a rally in defense of Obamacare on Thursday. “Don’t just be satisfied with defeating Trumpcare ― set your sights on creating real Medicare for all!” he told a cheering crowd of hundreds of activists. Ellison is a co-sponsor of a “Medicare for all” bill in the House. Representatives of several major progressive organizations ― the Working Families Party, the Progressive Campaign Change Committee, Credo, Social Security Works and the National Nurses United ― all echoed this push in conversations with The Huffington Post on Friday and Saturday. Being a moderate is doing nothing for the resistance, literally I don't understand why Conservatives push for the most extreme **** but Liberals think making sure everyone has healthcare is extreme. America wont change as long as those with decent to good jobs have the best insurance there is to offer, for a nominal price. As long as they have affordable health insurance through their work place, people aren't going to want to give that up. The best doctors, hospitals, facilities and services are readily available with little wait. That's what the middle class and up aren't going to want to give up. True but even then these insurance plans aren't all that great. People still have to pay a lot out of pocket and are in debt. Also someone correct me if I'm wrong but certain nations with universal health care also have private plans available, so these wealthier people can continue to pay for the best treatment possible either way if we indeed changed our system. The companies end up paying most of the cost, due to having large pools of people on the plan. It's part of your package when you get hired. As long as you stay in plan, it can be inexpensive to fairly priced for the services provided. If you want dental, vision, mental illness, rehabilitation services, prescriptions...you have to pay more. I don't think you pay to get no wait and better facilities...but I'm not certain about that. I may be wrong but I think in Canada you can purchase private health insurance and get treatment at private clinics... which basically shortens wait times. Different aspects of healthcare either belong to the Governments Responsibility or the Private Sectors responsibility but we never mix. Canada Government Funded: -Family Doctors -medical tests (ultra-sounds, x-rays, MRIs, blood tests etc) - surgeries (if they arent unnecessairy cosmetic procedures like boob jobs) -medical hospital treatments (like chemotherapy) - phychologists - Most types of specialists PRIVATE: -Dental -Vision Care -Most Prescription Medications - Chiropracters, massagers etc - Cosmetic Surgery - Private Clinics for Alternative Medicine The Stuff I put on the Government funded list is ONLY public. You cant buy insurance to improve it The Private stuff is only Private and the Government doesnt even subsidize it. People without means can sometimes get Government assistance to pay for things like prescription meds but thats assistance to an individual, the Government doesnt fund to mix with the stuff thats private Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
