Luiz 4,253
the nationalism sprouting in the America isnt really about hurting other countries in order to benefit our own selfish greed. at the political level, yes there are those who lie to our faces and use their power to feed their greed and will exploit other countries to benefit their own pockets. the thing is that we can all see democrats doing this as well as republicans so it isnt some right wing nationalism spike that is exploiting other countries, its both wings and it definitely isnt anything new to our current era. The nationalism of the average citizen though is more about protecting our country. they want to stop helping other countries defend themselves by placing american military bases all over the world. it costs too much for the US to try to have our troops all over the world. kicking illegals out isnt about hurting another country in the eyes of the average nationalist citizen, its about protecting our own. nationalists dont want sweat shop slave labor producing cloths or slave labor in africa making all of our smartphones(those should be american jobs), but the 1% does. nationalism to an average citizen is more about isolating ourselves more and not getting tangled up in overseas conflicts. the left wing and the right wing at their core are the same ****ing bird they have a lot in common. they're just both fooled by lying politicians who wear different colored ties. I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Nationalism is coming from the right and it has been ratcheted up to higher levels with Trump and his administration. Having military bases around the world is extremely beneficial to the safety and security of the United States. Of course, there is a cost, but we need to be spending that money to have presence in all corners of the world. The average citizen does not want to kick out law abiding undocumented immigrants. The majority want them to have a path to citizenship. No one, not even the Democrats, want to keep gang members and violent offenders in the country. People want their manufacturing jobs back, but factories are now heavily automated, employing a small fraction of the workers they would have a generation ago. Also, people want to get their electronics and other goods for the cheapest price. They don't want to pay triple (or more) for their IPhone. People think they want something, without realizing what the end result would be...much higher costs to the consumer. The left and the right wing couldn't be more far apart. We are now experiencing one of the most partisan political climates in our government and between the constituents of the two parties.
