Their early music is quite simple rock'n roll (nothing wrong with that). I think their later music were praised for being very experimental with unusual sounds and instruments, but that doesn't really impress me. But what I find to be most overrated about The Beatles is the idea they created that musicians should write their own music. If you're lucky enough to be successful both as a songwriter and as a musician, fine. But it shouldn't matter. Because teenage fans expect their idols to write their own music, pop stars have to co-write some lyrics so they can be listed as co-writers, and thus preserve the illusion that they write their own music.
