Where is Nicki Minaj??? She has been around 8 years as well ,having many top 10 and top 20 hits  ;) She is a household name and has always been more popular that Iggy ;)

Super Bass, Starships, Pound The Alarm, Bang Bang, Anaconda, Only, Turn Me On, Beauty and The Beat, Hey Mama, Side to Side and even she's had much more popular songs in the USA and two number one albums in the USA (same as Rihanna and Katy Perry)

I would say

Ariana Grande - her 3 era's have all been fairly succesful. She makes hits, DWT is selling well and her voice is phenomenal.  She may be around a while

Shawn Mendes- I know people find him basic, but let's face it, he's garnered alot of fans and because of his good looks has the potential for longevity. Tbh, Illuminate is a very good album, I love that its simplistic and does not need EDM, tropic house sounds and is very acoustic sounding and his voice is better than many other male artists.

The Weeknd- Serves good visuals, good music, possibly able to last a while.

Iggy Azalea- She is pretty new and with Mo Bounce she could recover from the Team disaster

Lorde: Her first album was successful, and Green Light is doing ok.....the album has yet to be released but will she have success with it?  Time will tell

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible contenders:

Meghan Trainor: Her first album was very successful with successful singles, but her second album Thank You had 1 successful single and the rest flopped hard. Will her 3rd studio album be able to make her recover?

Charlie Puth: We all know he mostly got radio hits from his debut album due to the success of See You Again, but his 3 singles did chart decently for a debut album. His songs are mediocre though.  Can we innovate himself and have a much better 2nd album?  I hope so, I love his voice.

Zara Larsson: Aint My Fault, Lush Life, and So Good are all pretty succesful and being played on radio, she just released her debut album. Will she see further success?  Possibly.

Alessia Cara: Here and Scars To Your Beautiful charted well, but does she have potential to make it?

Iggy is dead to the public and will never surface again.

But I really don't understand why Nicki is not listed on the list ? This fan base really despises her. She is much bigger than Selena and some others....

Weeknd is just great and he may become another legend. He has what it takes. Shawn is nice and wish him all  the best.

Right after Born This Way record labels flooded the market with new artists. Many unknowns were catapulted to fame between 2011-2013, and today there are only a handful of survivors.

This decade since 2011 has been defined by extraordinarily exposed one hit wonders.

2011 - Gotye Somebody That I Used to Know

2012 - Psy Gangnam Style

2013 - Lorde Royals

2014 - Iggy Fancy

2015 - Major Lazer Lean On

2016 - Chainsmokers Closer

I'dd add

2011 -  Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe

ShockPop

This is due to reality tv and flash in the pan djs.

Their careers flood the charts and radio then flop to nothing because they have nothing to offer.

Lord was not a 1 hit winder. Team was also a pretty big hit. Also she had a moderate hit with a 3rd single but now i forget what it is

And Iggy Azalea also had Black Widow as a hit!!!! To mention other hits she was featured in also

And Psy had a second hit with Gentleman even tho it wasnt as big as his first

Half this list isnt 1 hit wonders its more like 2 hit wonders :awkney:

I know, I almost put her there but she hasnt been relevant much in a few years so i thought she didnt qualify (even Gaga if she didnt do so many high profile performances and didnt have her recent hit MR i wouldnt have put her there tbh)

but this list is subjective without an exact science to determine whogoes on the list

u can fully consider Nikky one of them if u want :)

But their second hits were only a fraction of their big one, and they've never been as popular as their first hit.

So maybe 1.25 hit wonders is more apt :usrs:

Yeah but they were big enough u cant call them 1 hit wonders. Especially Lord with Team or Psy that still got over 1 Billion views with second hit and i heard it on the radio plenty

And Iggys Black Widow was no small hit either

People not buying physical albums in itself isnt the issue. That just means less revenue is made that way but as long as the music is accessed they can be just as popular

the issue with streaming is that if a label chooses an artist they wanna promote hard because they think they have what it takes, its harder for Labels to shuve a specific artists down peoples throats because people can access whatever they want

it has reduced labels influence in creating new big artists

And because only big artists tour big... I think Labels are trying harder to maintain their popular older artists relevant as long as possible

But it could be a reason. I mean, new artists get a huge hit but they are not album sellers. Real money is in albums and touring (which happens thanks to album success). So, if an artist gets a huge hit but can't sell albums, maybe the label doesn't want to invest more money next time so that reduces their chances of success... idk, just trying to figure out a reason

also there is lack of talent tbh. They can make a good song and then the next one is not as good, or they just try to repeat the formula (that's very common, labels don't want to risk) and most times that doesn't work.

Maybe a combination of those.

You didn't put BEYONCE as a name that has been a headliner for years now and she is still at the top of her game??
