What could've easily fit after 'Secret Garden' on Erotica, Sanctuary is the prelude, in a way, of the spiritual-esque Ray of Light that would come to conquer in the following years. This particular song is interesting, in that it sounds like nothing else on the album, but immediately fits. One of my favorites from Bedtime Stories. - @jujubae

The best part of this album for me is Sanctuary followed by Bedtime Story.  Sanctuary puts me in dark hypnotic zone from the opening line.  This song could've fit nicely on Erotica but it's perfect as the centerpiece of Bedtime Stories.  - @MonsterJames333

This song feels like a direct ancestor of “Frozen” for me. It really shows how Madonna was following a career trajectory towards a more mature work in terms of quality. It reveals in her an artist with a lot of potential. It’s very superior to a lot of her current songs. I think this is one of the reasons why it’s so upsetting to see the decline in quality in her work in her more recent albums. I know all pop songs can’t be great, but still. As a Madonna fan – and a fan of this album – sometimes I feel confused, like “where did this go?”. - @Sassy McSass

SO PERFECT! I love the flutes, the melody, the lyrics, the voice, the production, EVERYTHING about this song is perfect, the little talking part is so chilling, and the "yoooooooou aaaaareeeeee............ my sanctuaaaaryyyyyy" part is so beautiful. - @Antonio

Not my favorite song on the album but its pretty good. I really enjoy the intro and where she talks about the water following the moon. The lyrics are very soft and gentle which fit this album wonderfully. Also her connecting back to Rain from Erotica shows just how talented she is and how these albums a connected but different in wonderful ways.  - @shoful

This is probably the most R&B track in the album and the most ethereal one. It gives me ''Ray of Light'' teas even it was not released yet. It's very alternative to the sounds Madonna had expored at that point.  - @Dr Evil

 I consider this song as na interlude to one of the center gems of this album, and if this song was really na interlude then damn… it would probably be the best interlude ever made. Again, it’s another song that I feel fits the Erotica theme much better than anything on that album does. The production is superb, and gets away from the excessive use of R&B on the rest of this album, bringing it to its more electronic and experimental side. I LOVE it! The only reason its not higher on my rankings is the lyrics which are a cringe + her early 80s voice which is a kii
