A simple google search will show you those are all American based sites and the most popular social media was Facebook and Myspace back in 2009. Twitter was quite at the bottom. The news or "old news" have more chance to spread WW nowadays when almost everyone has smartphones and Twitter. Same goes with "apology". Jews (Ashkenazi) are known to have extremely rare genetic diseases because they have very strict inter-breeding religious values that have created small, secluded pools (like a lot of royal families actually, the "Habsburg Jaw" and hemophilia in the English crown) where there's less diversity.
