It would be ridiculous to secure the position of EU nationals in the UK at the moment since there has been no formal acknowledgement that all EU member states will agree to allow UK nationals to remain in their countries. 

Moreover, it would have totally weakened the bargaining position of the UK Government. Whether it is morally just or not, these people are, unfortunately, bargaining chips and while we all wish that they are able to remain in the UK and continue with their lives here, we must also ensure that UK nationals are able to do the same.

It makes most sense to wait and have that discussion between the UK Government and the EU as to ensure the rights of both groups of people.

I was gonna say I'm guessing these things are examples of what's going to happen during negotiations, + totally agree that both EU and U.K. nationals are essentially being used as playing cards, neither of these groups deserve that especially when EU nationals are so vital to our country, they literally underpin our health service.

And Spain's colonial history still has repercussions today. Do you even live in Gibraltar? You realise that it is home and employment to thousands of Spanish people, not to mention Moroccans and other nationalities. Basically what you are arguing for would be the equivalent of the British booting out all EU nationals from the UK after Brexit. It would be absurd to close the border, just as it would to close the NI/Rep of Ireland Border. No one knows what the final details are yet so I'm sure something will be worked out for these two situations in particular.

I know about Spain's colonial history because I got a History degree at the university, so... There's nothing to work out anymore since you voted to leave. Every action has consequences. The EU won't accept a tax haven colony near to us. It's called self-defense. We don't want corsairs around us.

That's the whole point of the 2 year negotiation period sis, otherwise we'd leave tomorrow.

While Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the rest of the countries work together, the UK state is only worried about itself. What's the point on negociating with an entity who doesn't want to collaborate with the rest of Europeans since like teh beginning of time?

I want to be clear: I don't like the UK state, government, or however you want to call it. I have nothing against British people. Literally 15 million British people come here every year and you're amazing people you know

I want to be clear: I don't like the UK state, government, or however you want to call it. I have nothing against British people. Literally 15 million British people come here every year and you're amazing people you know 

 

The whole point of a trade union, which the EU was originally designed to be, is to benefit the member states so of course we are no longer interested in a supreme political union, which no longer benefits us as it once did.

The point of negotiating with the UK is that the UK is the EU's biggest customer and therefore it is very important for the EU that it remains on good terms with the UK.

1 million jobs in Germany are by direct result of the UK's purchase of motor vehicles manufactured in that country. If the EU chooses to take your approach, 1 million German people will be without jobs.

The negotiation is benefiting you much more than it is benefiting us.

Who is this "we" you speak of? The royal "we"? King Phillip died a long time ago. Surely your history degree taught you that. Who knew you spoke for the entire country. Also, "I" didn't vote on anything. Moreover, the EU has no choice but to accept Gibraltar. What are they going to do? Invade?

What were you saying about working together and not being out for yourself? Rather contradictory views you have there lol.
