darkchylde 14,857 Posted March 9, 2017 Share Posted March 9, 2017 i've had this thought ever since she release pure heroine. at just 16, she wrote lyrics better than most songwritters after a 30 year career tho. and now she's just released "liability" which is another step forward. her work is the best, let me explain it for you: during most lorde songs, she is able to create an intangible narrative that explains both a feeling and an event, exact to a past moment of her life but also very relatable for everyone willing. in "liability", she is able to speak about success, love, fame, and self perception by just pinning down the few lines: Baby really hurt me Crying in the taxi He don't wanna know me Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm Says it was poison So I guess I'll go home Into the arms of the girl that I love The only love I haven't screwed up She's so hard to please But she's a forest fire I do my best to meet her demands Play at romance, we slow dance In the living room, but all that a stranger would see Is one girl swaying alone Stroking her cheek and in just this verse she's trapped you in a film scene already. i think this is peak songwritting and she will continue to raise the ceiling as she grows up, unmatched by anyone, close by few. she writes songs like poetry was meant to be written when songs couldn't be recorded and puts poets to dust.
