MGC 226
Honestly I do think that Joanne is full of soul. There is a genuine committed passion throughout the album, and If you ask me now several months into the listening process there are some standouts in which Gaga has truly stripped herself of her flamboyant avant-garde persona: I'm talking about Joanne, MR, Hey Girl, Angel Down and most of all, Sinner's prayer. I didn't even like SP at first but it's so intense and honest that I'd say that Joanne's soul really relies there. The only weak point of the album is that it doesn't carry a consistent concept, which is not really weird (neither the overpraised Anti does), but it's weird for Gaga which has always tried to create a concept (even with an evident stretch, like in ARTPOP) . In this sense AYO, JW, DIC and PI feel a little out of place. However, they're among my favorites of the album and they're really good songs. Somehow Joanne managed to create a consistency that ARTPOP had not. And I can't wait to see where she'll go in the future
retroglamx 5,087
Diamond Heart and Sinner's Prayer have enough soul for the whole record. Pink flamingos always fascinated me.
