Gaga was never mainstream. From the very beginning she said she wanted to do something different. She always said that her particular choice of pop music was based mainly on the fact that she lived in downtown New York where the indie rock scene was driven by songwriters with guitars and stuff. She went and did performance art which was kinda revolutionary at the time in that place.

When The Fame came out it was a dance-pop-electronic music record. It was different from anything else. Also, she paid tribute to pop culture with the "pop music will never be low brow" statement in a particular time when pop stars and the pop music scene where under criticism for the Britney fiasco and how it seemed "prefabricated".

Even Born This Way had a sound that was different from anything else. The Fame Monster had a lot of sounds that come from eastern european electronic music and that wasn't mainstream either. I think the difference in those times was that people liked what she did more, it was more eye catching I guess. It's very hard to have a record that's neither usual for the music industry standards and the GP standards that becomes a huge success. She was lucky in that regard.

And I find it really cool that she just does what she wants and has full creative control on her records. She produces them, works with whoever she wants to work with and follows her gut. I think that streaming is for generic music that appeals to a wider audience. Sure, it's great and I love it and think it should play a more important part in her management's plans. However, it doesn't define the artist nor the music nor the awards it might get (only people's I guess). Even Beyonce was solely on Tidal and it didn't prevent Lemonade from becoming the success it was. What's important to me as a fan is that I feel like I've grown up with her music so what she does always speaks to me differently and I like when music challenges me and questions me that way. I really do believe it's a matter of time until she gets a number one hit again cause she's got the talent of course.

i think u freaky but you don't have a hit

It all depends what team you're working with Beyonces and Gagas performances don't even look alike while Beyonce looks dominant and does a lot of visuals Gaga is more of the dance and be werid girl

I despise Beyonce but her team knows exactly what shes capable of unlike Gagas new team who's just a bunch of yes sayers and letting her do what she wants

Heaven forbid Gaga have a say in her own career.  Interesting also that nobody ever claims that male pop stars need to be more controlled.

Also Gaga is becoming more mainstream If you quit thinking of the "gp" simply in terms of teenage pop fans.

What's the point ? What would be your benefit in her being more mainstream/successful ?

Am I the only one here not wanting her to get any MORE basic ? Or are y'all satisfied with the Joanne  Gaga ? A voice isn't everything ffs

Basic: A word used by "Lady Gaga fans" to describe Joanne, yet they know that word just doesn't suit her. Not everyone has a trained voice, not everyone can do what she does. So there must be clearly a mistake when the profile pic has the image of a basic person.

The geepee can't make her Mainstream if she wants to be a debut indie singer this era so...:madge:

But I think she could go MORE mainstream I guess if she served a slaysual film with a great song(no not tropical House mess trap) :whitney: If she just served us with that Disco Psych era tbh :madge: Plus honeslty if you just want success it ain't something that we see everyday with Gags cuz she takes sooo many risk(not a bad thing though) but its always a 50/50 with ha

She could still easily be the biggest popstar out there if she actually kept working for it.. after BTW she let go. She's been writing deliberately anti-radio, anti-chart music since Born This Way. You can't expect her to be successful that way. She also takes giant gaps between albums and even during album cycles. She does not have the 'promote myself everywhere, everyday' ethic to build a sustainable big career.

However she is extremely talented and has a giant giant fanbase that will keep her going for as long as she makes music regardless of how it charts.

She can easily top the charts next album if she aims for it.

This word suits her very well to me and has been for a couple of years now, that's my opinion (and as you just said I'm not the only one) and you not agreeing with it won't really do anything sadly. A lot of people have a wonderful voice and are also trained, but very few have the chance to be in Gaga's spot. Finally, you dragging my profile pic when you don't even understand the point of it is sad too. Nice try

Every person, different opinion.

Joanne = mainstream

Joanne not mainstream

Crazy Gaga, what GP wanted

Crazy Gaga, what made her fall

Same faces talking constantly same about Gaga's discography and shading her in every thread. Lmao

I would love to see you all at management market. But first of all, some of you should grow up a little bit.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I would maybe consider that to be true, if beyonce wasn't so fond of prerecorded vocals.

Because the geepee can't get anything right :lolga::trollga::derpga:

Isn't it hipster to want your favourite artist the remain under the radar so your enjoyment of their music isn't tarnished? Don't you want to be a hipster. :lolga:
