Just this lyric in particular is risky

I think it is a very over the top, theatrical song, and upon first listen, it did have a bit of a creepy/halloween-ish sound which I still catch occasionally and I'd say that there was very little around at the time which was similar, so it was definitely an experimental move which could have backfired but luckily it didn't

Also, sonically it sounded like nothing else on the radio. Come to think of it, all her lead singles have been total risks.

I guess just because of how different it was to what was around. It was a freaky song and freaky video in a world of simple pop. The meaning of the song was about all the wrong kinds of love (affairs etc) compared to the heartbreak and love you got in every other song at the time. The structuring of the song wasn't like anything else.

Everything about it was completely fresh, and it was risky in the sense that it was possible a lot of people could have rejected it.

is Bad Romance really completely different to the other synth pop on there? I mean it's higher quality, but in terms of pure risk, dance songs were already a trend. I've heard that it was "Darker" and had maybe a heavier bass. Looking back okay yeah it's pretty different lol. k u right I talked myself out of disagreeing :)

Mister Gaga

It was very different, back in 2009, but it's also what made gaga, Gaga.

Everything about it was just so over the top, deeply weird. Lyrics, vocals, the ****ing music video, performances, outfits...i perfectly remember when i first heard it; i was like 'i've never heard something like this before'. It felt from another world. It was not just a pop song, it was an event; because it sounded surreal (and still does).

Thanks god and gaga, it worked. But it could have gone wrong. Monster/DITD were much safer choices, but she still choose Bad Romance

Because it was a big departure from her work on The Fame, it was (and still is) extremely different than most Top 40 pop songs on the radio, lyrically it was pretty dark, and sonically the sound was risky. It was weird and the song was polarizing at the time (until the iconic video came out. Then it was universally praised :gaycat:).

OMG so retro-looking now, pop music has really evolved over the last 7 years.

Everything was so light and melodic.

And yes it's so crazy that in that bland, catchy pop song world, Gaga bursts onto the scene with the intensely dark, theatrical and alien BR.

The world was shook.
