AlyM 137 Posted March 5, 2017 Share Posted March 5, 2017 Apparently Disney's new version of Mary Poppins (With Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Colin Firth, Ben Wishaw, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters, etc) comes out December 25th, 2018. This will probably be well past the date for Golden Globe submissions, so Gags won't have to campaign against Emily Blunt in the best Actress in a Comedy or Musical category. BUT... music from both movies will make the Academy Awards deadline and could be serious competition for each other. The Mary Poppins sound mixer also worked on Les Miserables, which used the same method of recording that Gaga plans to for ASIB. Warner Brothers is no small time company, but Disney tends to spend a lot on promotion for their productions and they have a cast that can sell Marry Poppins just with their names. Oscars for less ~important categories like Best Song typically go to the most popular and necessarily the most deserving (ex. Sam Smith's win in 2016). That's why I think if the producers want A Star is Born to be successful in awards season, this will be a huge popularity race and will involve quite a bit of promotion on Gaga's part for the music. Oh I'm not being hysterical. I'm just familiar with how promotion works for certain productions. WB is spending 30 million on this movie - they will want to push it in awards season. WB is spending 30 million on this movie - it's going to be up for awards. It was not personal, it was general for the fan base WB had too many flops lately and they spent same or even more.. I'm just saying to forget for now with all the expectations and fears.. it's too soon and the most important - Gaga is not yet a good actress, so anything can happen with this movie, lets assume that they want her for her voice and her name and less for her acting.. I just enjoy the speculation. I still think ASIB has a ton of potential and will be ultimately more appreciated than a Disney musical derivative. And I disagree with you regarding why she got the part. Bradley Cooper, who is probably most interested in the quality of his film, pushed for her to get the role. Nominated yes, but the category is not as easy as you think. In the past three years established actresses like Meryl, J-Law and other fantastic actresses have been nominated. In my messy era.
